For those here who, like me, use the excuse that we have "short legs" -- I have just been reading about a little girl of 5 years age who runs the Parkrun 5k in 26 minutes !!!
Oh. the shame!!!!

I think Bazza you are getting obsessed by park run times?
Amazing The son of a work colleague who is 8, ran it in 22 minutes and so many seconds!
Never did Mo Farah any harm either! Have a great day!!
Wow. That's amazing. A 5 year old with discipline to be able to continuously run for 5k. That's pretty special. I'm off to google
parkrun.com.au/news/ She was written up in the latest Aussie Parkrun news.
Get her autograph since she may one day win the London marathon! And Olympic glory
Noooo, I really want to hang on to the short legs excuse , so there will now have to be an addition - how does ' short legs and getting on a bit' sound? Only speaking for myself of course
No shame that I can see! We all run our own run!
26 mins at 5!! Shall we start a mutual support group for those no-way-will-I-ever-do-that amongst us?
I have just had a thought ~ I'm 50, so ten times her age; does that mean I am allowed to take ten times as long? Please tell me it does.
You wish! No such luck matey.
I have short legs too! Don't go too fast but I go pretty far .... for someone who don't drive I've been all around the world, some people say I've done all right for a girl, yeah yeah yeah (so sayeth the late, great Melanie Safka)
No 5year old should be running like that.Muscles and bones not developed enough.I think short legs are an excuse.I take 2paces for every one my husband takes. X
When I hand over my token at parkrun, I always ask for a "pensioners discount" -- you know, no money - but take a few minutes off the time !!
It gets sad, doesn't it? I remember my feeling of elation at finally managing to beat a lady who was in her mid 80's (I did feel ashamed of myself afterwards!) and at Easter I dragged myself to a PB desperately trying to beat a 7 year old (who was dressed up as an Easter Chick). Needless to say, as she was in front of me, she was completely oblivious to the fact that she was in a race with me an no doubt wasn't really trying... (she won...)
I've tried to use the short legs arguement and the "I'm old" arguement, but the fastest lady in my age category does the run in half my time, so I lose on both counts. I still love the buzz of Parkrun though - just nowadays I try to only run against myself!
The title of your post describes me perfectly Bazza! x
