Will it be ok to do a long run every two week instead of every week ? Because I'm finding it hard to fit one in on my seven straight shifts . I work seven on , seven off ten hrs a day . Thanks in advance for any advise

Jeff Galloway's Run/walk marathon training programmes all have bi-weekly long runs.

Unless you are specifically training for something, I reckon whatever you want to do is ok. I just do a longer run when I feel like it. When you are in the right mood it is great just to keep going. I've been gradually extending my distance by doing just that.

Whatever floats your boat Rockette. I'm not surprised you can't fit a long run some weeks with that work schedule! We can only do what our legs and our work and family commitments allow. Happy (worry-free) running :)

I reckon that will be fine. I have only just started doing the longer runs and just get one in now and again to mix things up a bit. It doesn't appear to affect me adversely. x

That seems to be the pattern I'm falling into. Officially I'm trying to do a long run every Saturday. But in reality about one weekend in 2 something comes up that makes it difficult and I just fit in 30 minutes. I'm not training for anything in particular though - just trying to gradually increase distance and improve pace.

I read somewhere the other day in a health related article that long runs every fortnight are better for you than doing one a week. So, once my big run on Sunday is out of the way I reckon that's the route I shall go down.

We are doing this to get fit, not kill ourselves. LOL
