ankles....

I have only just started (today was my second day) and am using treadmill at the moment, the main problem is my ankles are really aching when I run, walking seems fine, my right ankle has had previous damage so not really surprised its giving me gip but wasn't expecting both ankles to hurt, I am assuming its simply that they are not used to it and need strengthening.....I hope anyway!

Hi, have you had your running gait analysed? I ask this because many people over-pronate, this means there's quite a bit of movement on the ankles, this can cause them to be sore. Might be worth getting checked (all good running stores offer it for free) because if this is the case a good pair of support trainers or orthotics can help.

No I haven't, didn't know anything about it but will look into it, thank you :)

I concur with notbad. It is worth going to a specialist running store and getting a gait analysis. You will be AMAZED at how your feet land on the ground when you see a video of it. I had one done months ago and I could see exactly what the problem was. My right foot was landing and then bending in a way that put a terrible strain on my shins and upper leg! Bought some proper running shoes and did the analysis again and bingo! My feet landed whilst my leg was kept straight. Definitely worth doing and worth spending some dosh up front to ensure safety and longevity!
