Do treadmills measure miles or KM's?

I run on a treadmill, did all of c25k on it and have run on it 2-3 times a week. Have been really disheartened as I assumed treadmills measure in KM's so it takes me 45 mins to run 5K...however looking on running forums people seem to say treadmills are universal and measure in miles...I'd feel a lot better if this is the case! I run between 6.8-7 so I don't feel like I'm really slow....

  • It actually depends on the treadmill...there should be some indicator of the units it's measuring in. Most will let you switch back and forth. If you can switch, the higher number will be the kilometres. If in a gym, ask them. If at home, maybe the manual will help? Good luck figuring it out : )

  • I agree it really does vary on the treadmill. Mine runs in Km, it should say on the screen at start up. mine pops up with a big KM when switched on. As said most you can switch from one to the other, mine is supposed to but I havent worked out how yet lol.

  • If you know yours measures in km can you tell me what speed you run at?

  • My treadmill is in km, I do my brisk walk at 5 km and the light jog at 6 to 7 km.
