Happydayz..... But.!!

Hi All,

W4r3 completed and feeling a bit fitter. However the first 3 weeks I lost approx 3-4lbs but now I seem to have stopped losing weight even though I've also packed in the booze for lent, (was doing approx 30 units a week).

I would have expected to keep losing some weight between training and no alcohol.!! My diet is fairly healthy and I don't eat tons...

My wife seems to think that I'm building muscle hence not losing any weight...

Any thoughts.? I also want to start strengthening my core, any tips for this.?

If you keep running and off the booze you will lose weight for sure but you have to stick with it as it won't happen overnight. For the C25k you are not running very far, and you are only on week 4, so it's a bit early to be expecting to see results.

When you complete C25k and can start upping the distances that's when the weight begins to come off. You have to stick with the healthy eating regime though, and cut back on the booze.

Even though you might not appear to be losing weight at the moment your body shape changes. If you keep going you will notice it for sure

I agree, with the whole program I haven't lost a load of weight but everybody keeps commenting about how much weight I have lost. I build muscle really well and I am definetly In Smaller clothes with less of a wobble.

Hi. I agree with the previous posters. Pilates is great for strength training and better than traditional weights as it will give whole body training. If it's any incentive, several international rugby teams use Pilates regularly as part of their training.

It is still early days on the exercise front, and well done for cutting out the alcohol. If you say you eat healthily, the question remains: how big are your portions? How many calories are you actually eating a day. It doesn't matter how healthy the food you eat is, too much is too much. I am an overweight vegetarian which just goes to show that it's as much about portion control as well as the quality of what you put in your mouth. That said, I'm not advocating turning to an extreme diet. Try something like the 5:2 diet, which I found helped re-educate me about portion control.

It takes 3500 calories to lose a pound of fat. Your W4R3 will lose you between 300 and 400 calories. So the weightloss you'll certainly experience will be because you're building muscles, and muscles increase your metabolism which in turn means you lose weight.

Giving up the alcohol is what will make a big difference. Stick with it, and I'm sure you'll see results!

I agree, healthy eating and reaching the longer runs is what will help burn the calories and get the weight off. Slow and steady will get you there though. With regard to core strength, I would recommend Pilates every time. Tanyag is right - and it's not just rugby teams who use it - plenty of sports people (men as well as women) use Pilates. In addition to core strength Pilates will tone the body. My shape changed dramatically when I did Pilates - flat tummy, etc. Good luck with your running. Best wishes.
