I seem to have developed really sore big toes ... - Couch to 5K
I seem to have developed really sore big toes in the last 2 weeks, I am booked for a 10 k in May ............help ??
Wrong size shoes??? I read the other day a recommendation that we have a thumbs width of space between the end of our toes and the front of the shoe.
Me too! I've tried cutting my toe nail as low as possible but think Bazza 123 advice probably the correct one. Folks gave me some good professional shop recommendations a while back on where/how to get fitted properly. Will do so when next in UK. You should have enough time to break in a new pair of trainers before the big race.
I bought some new trail shoes recently, which I wore yesterday, for the first time in ages as the trails have been flooded. I noticed just how roomy they were in the toe area compared to my cheapo road running shoes. This would make a difference when running longer distances when the feet swell, which is what could be happening to you Kazzers. I should check out your shoes. Socks too! You can get anti blister socks
hey Thanks misswobble, i'll get my trainers checked (although I did have them fitted at a running shop ) I did get them absolutely mud covered and drenched in recent flooded fields . I will look out for the anti blister socks too. Also thanks to Floe and Bazza1234. This has only happened in the last week though. I am wondering if my trainers are past it (a bit like me) I have had them for at least 3 years !!
Ouwwwch! Sounds as though your trainers are well and truly past their use by date. I'm given to understand that they need replacing fairly regularly, after 300 miles if my memory serves me correctly. Good luck with getting your toes and shoes sorted out. Best wishes.
Choose ones which feel roomy in the toe box! Good luck
If your sore toes started with a change of running shoes then I should think the new ones will be the problem. If you are wearing cheap trainers then you should maybe think about being fitted for 'proper' running shoes; there's no need to spend vast amounts of money on a pair ... any reputable running shoe retailer will measure and supply shoes to suit your budget (they want repeat business so will not try to rip you off).
Otherwise, try investing in a cannister of 'Boots Super Absorbent Foot Powder' at about £3.50, or try running socks which have one sock sewn inside another (or try the old fell walking trick of wearing two pairs of socks).
Check also that the soreness isn't down to mild Athletes Foot or other infection.
Thanks so much for posting this question. I was thinking that I was on some weird growth spurt starting from the toes up as my second toes were getting really sore. I guess I need to look to my kit for the answers as my trainers were pretty cheapo AND keep my fingers crossed that I'm not turning into a bog foot sasquatch.
It sounds like you were wise and invested in good shoes to start with. Good luck on sorting this out and finding comfort for your tootsies.
