I had a run today 2.64 km in 21 mins, is that pretty crap? I was running to one of the graduate programmes .. Feel like I'm not doing well enough

Sounds fine to me ( because that is about the pace I do for the 5Ks :) )-- and there's no such thing as "well enough" unless you are aiming for a Gold at the next Olympics.

No that isn't crap at all. It's 21 minutes more exercise than far too many people have done. You should always feel proud of what you achieve no matter how long or far you run.

I've entered a 5k race in just over a weeks time. It will be the final run of Week 9 and if I can complete it in 45 minutes I will be delighted. However, simply completing it will be an achievement given that this is the first running I have done since I was15 (and that was 40 years ago).

Unless you're aiming for a place at next year's Commonwealth Games, what does it matter? You're only actually competing against yourself so your speed is your speed. The fact that you are actually out there running is the main thing. At 67 I'm happy to do any speed!!!

Today I did 2.2km in 20minutes - somehow the run just didn't gel, so at the 5 minute mark I thought "sod it, twice round the park and I'm DONE". I figure it was 20 minutes and 2.2km more than I would have done if I hadn't pushed myself out the door AND 2.2km and 20 minutes more than I was capable of 3 months ago. So, not crap at all. No-one is checking up to see if you're doing "well enough".

That sounds fine to me. Do not stress yourself over speed - you will gradually speed up as you progress. You are not crap you're doing just fine!

I agree with what everybody has said. Your speed is similar to mine. I know exactly how you feel but trust me it's better than not doing it. I am on enforced break due to an op on Saturday not running for a week and I would give anything to be out there today going at my pace. It might not be the fastest but it's our pace and trust me a few years down the road we will of picked up our pace a bit but even if we haven't you will be able to guarantee our mileage will be spectacular compared to sitting on a couch. Feel the fun in your running embrace your speed.

Agree with all above comments, we aren't all fast paced, as. Long as you are doing something, that is the main thing x

I finished week 8 with a bang and decided to go for distance rather than minutes. My target is to be able to complete a 5k race next Sunday and would be happy with a time of around 40-45 minutes ... I'm 55 years old and have done no running since I was 15 prior to starting this program in January so thought that to be a realistic time.

I was absolutely gobsmacked when I completed my first 5k for 40 years and did it in a time of 36 minutes. Not fast by many people's standards, but certainly an eye opener for me. I'm looking forward to the race on Sunday now with a renewed confidence. Maybe I might not finish last after all. :)
