This has probably been answered many times bef... - Couch to 5K
This has probably been answered many times before, but how do you know how far you have run, how can I find out if I can actually run 5K?

There are several apps you can download - I use runkeeper, but there are several others as well. Or if you know your route, you can use a website - can't remember what it's called, I typed running routes into the search engine - think it's something like mapmyrun - and do it afterwards

There is a google map pedometer. But I find it only reliably knows about roads. If I take a footpath then it won't always let me include it - even though sometimes I can see the footpath on the satellite view. (This may of course vary by location.)

Hi Hawkfall! Up until recently I've used mapometer.com to plot where I've been. It won't be 100% accurate, but I now have an android phone and am using Cardiotrainer but on some occasions that has come up with some wayward results too. Lots of people swear by Garmin watches as I gather that they are a great deal more accurate.

I use mapmyride..used this a lot with my cycling. Just change it to run, walk it gives you options.
when I start my podcast I start my tracking on mapmyride..Im on W3 Run 2..this one is shorter in time but I've managed to find a route that is just under 5K..so I walk the rest of the way after the podcast finished..I do this as im trying to get used to the distance that I will eventually get up to as the wks/runs go on.
good luck ..hope you find something you can work with that helps you ..

If you have a smartphone there are lots of apps. I use Endomondo and find it very good. I've also used MapmyRun but found it a bit inaccurate.

runningmap.com/ & walkjogrun.net/ For some reason I can't actually put the link in only the addresses. Anyway before I had my Garmin I used the first site & I found it quite good & I've seen the second recommended recently but haven't tried it yet.

I highly recommend the iSmoothRun app. I wrote a review of it on here a week or so ago. You can probably find it with search.
