completed early morning run: well I did it... - Couch to 5K
completed early morning run
I run better later in the day too. You'd think that energy levels would be highest first thing in the morning but with the exception of swimming I find exercising early in the day really hard work. Good luck with the programme
Well done for getting up early and getting out there. I guess morning, or evening runs is as much a lifestyle thing as anything else. I only ever have the time in the morning, but it is a struggle dragging myself out of bed at 6:20, 3 days a week.
The dark mornings don't help, my biggest challenge after the summer was to keep running 3 days a week through the winter, and I will do that. Then it will be light mornings again, and that is so much nicer. Can be frustrating though, I am a photographer (hobby), and have seen some cracking sunrises when out running, then I wished I had been out taking photo's.
As for ankle and shin pain, I have been there myself. Do you stretch after your runs? It really helps. Running tightens everything up, and if you don't stretch, it doesn't loosen up properly (well it will eventually). Tightness in one part of your legs can manifest as discomfort elsewhere. Give it a go part way through your cool down walk, just don't overdo the stretches (I have done that too, and knocked myself out of running for a week!)
(Just noticed, you did 3K on Week 1 Run 3! - You star, that is fantastic. Take it steady).
I always run in the evening as I have to be up at 6.00am to get to work on time and getting out of bed any earlier seems impossible. I get off the bus home early and run from there, due to the bus route it only adds about 20mins to my journey home. I waited until the clocks changed in autumn before starting the c25k so no one would see me running in day light!
