Didn't want to be left out!

I've been inspired by all the accounts of people doing 10ks and half marathons recently. Discovered there was still time to enter the Great Scottish Run 10k in Glasgow on Sunday so this morning I signed up. Less than a week to go, have only been doing 5ks lately, away with work 3 days this week. Am I mad?

Not mad at all!

I was due to do the Swansea 10k last weekend but had to pull out due to all sorts of foot issues. I was gutted - it would have been my first race since starting the C25k in late May.

My experience has been that once you can run 5k, the next 5k is much easier :-) I found that running 6 miles was no harder than running 5 miles...which was no harder than running 4. It's as if you suddenly enter "the zone" - your legs are warned up and relaxed, your breathing is steady, the demons have lost interest and gone to sleep...:-)

I was going to be running the race with a couple of friends who had done very little training - in the event, they both came in just under the 60 minute mark...lifted by race fever, the crowd and sheer determination.

Good luck!x

Good for you; I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I had thought of signing up for this race but thought it too soon after the River Ness run.

Not mad at all Wilma, and I've every confidence in you. Just think of it as two 5Ks (it's easy when you say it fast!). I suspect that somewhere around 5K you'll get in the zone and once there you'll feel as though you can continue more-or-less indefinitely. Whatever, just enjoy it - I'm sure there'll be a great atmosphere.

Not mad at all, pace yourself for the first 5 and you'll do it no prob, enjoy! :)

Thanks folks. This will be the first time I've done a race where I really don't know the route. I reckon I can break it up in my head reasonably well. The course doesn't look too bad - 4k out to the turn, a bit of a loop at 6-8k then along the riverside for the last 2k.
