Home from holiday I started the C25K this morning. I am 55 and a couple of stone overweight and found it really hard. I was gasping for breath half way through and felt sick and dizzy. I have never jogged before in my life. Has anyone else felt like this?
Started this morning, will it get any easier? - Couch to 5K
Started this morning, will it get any easier?
I was like that 3 months ago couldn't do the 5 min brisk walk without thinking my legs ache, and the 60 sec run I did about 20. Now I finished the C25K this morning and can run for a whole 30 mins. I am not that fast but can do 30 mins m so pleased. It gets much better so persever you can do it
Hi,
I'm 52 and I've just completed week 5 and it does get easier! Trust in the plan and don't go too fast seems to be the best advice. The hardest day is your first so well done for completing it!
If you're worried about anything then check with your Doctor and don't worry about repeating days or weeks if you don't feel ready to move on.
Best of luck
Corius
I found week 1 the hardest out off them all. Keep going you WILL do it!
Hi Llmt take it from this 74 year old you can do it. Do what Laura says, take it slowly and you will surprise yourself. This is a wonderful community and you will get all the support and encouragement you will need. If you can find them read my old blogs from all the lovely people on this community. Pat
It does get easier, just go at your own pace. We are all here to help if you need it, we've all been there!
Good Luck
Hi Llmt! Welcome to the mad, kind, inspirational, sometimes comical and always supportive community of C25K bloggerettes. The hardest part is getting out the door - and you've already done that! There will be times when it feels hard. This is a whole new experience for your body and if it is not happy with you and it starts to complain just take a step back, slow the pace and stick to the mantra 'Slow and steady' and you'll be fine. A lot of it is believing in yourself and that Laura has managed to get a whole heap of us through the program and she will get you through too!
Good luck and happy running!
Well done on taking the first step, and starting the programme.
I was 55 and many stones overweight when I started c25k - week one seemed impossible until I read all the blogs/posts on this forum; I was struggling just like you and could barely run for one minute without almost collapsing. Slow down, take it easy - it is not a race.
You can do it!
Thank you so much everybody. Next run is on Saturday when at least I know what to expect. X
Have faith & trust Laura. It is hard to start with but it DOES get easier and, no matter how it seems at the moment - you CAN do it. After all, you've already done the hardest bit - starting. Attagirl!
It took me six weeks to complete the three sessions for Week 1 (good job I liked the music - though after about 12 times it was starting to pall...). I never had to repeat any of the others. I gave Week 1 another try after I'd graduated. Still hard! It is difficult to get into the right pace and easy to go too fast. So yes, it does get much, much better!
It's wonderful that you've taken the hardest step. Into your shoes and out of the door! Don't go too fast. Slow and steady is the only way to go. No speed is too slow as long as you are running. I more or less crawled! Dog walkers disappeared into the distance. After my graduation run I overtook 8 dog walkers!! My running speed was much slower than I can walk.
It does get easier, I'm 25 (but very unfit) and just about to start week 5. My first run was awful, I really struggled but keep going and it really does get easier and you feel so good after each run (even if you are hot and sweaty)
I found the first week the hardest as I think many people on here did. I'd never run before and it was really difficult and I used to come home and have to soak my legs in a hot bath because they hurt so much. It does get easier and the sense of achievement you will get really gives you a boost to keep going. Good luck with your second run.
I am 51 on week 1 have done first 2 runs did the second one slower which was better i am a stone overweight have never run before but find the plan like having a personal trainer and the support on here brill.I did more stretching the second time to warm up my muscles and i wasnt as sore maybe a banana or water before your run some seem to some dont i think we will find what suits as we go well done on starting and keep going x
Hi Gypsey. I did my second run, Week 1 this morning and also found it a little easier -I didn't start to feel sick until the 6 th minute! I notice Laura says to only run Week 1 a total of three times? I wasn't going to move to Week 2 until I'd completely mastered Week 1. What are you going to do?
hi ladylovesmilktray I havent listened to whats expected of me in week 2 but if i feel its too soon i will keep on week 1 which i finished today (not with ease but better than run 1) but i will try week 2 on monday morning first it may not be too bad i am not in a rush so i will play it by ear pretty red face today....good luck for third run x
Hi Ladylovesmilktray, I feel like a novice as I'm only just about to start week 4 but I'm 55 like you & spent some months with slimming world before getting started. (It was a member of that group that tempted me into this & I'm still waiting for her to start but I'm grateful to her for getting the initial commitment out of me .) I am not/was not a runner & the hardest thing was getting out the door each time. I can still find plenty of reasons not to go but having got this far I'm not prepared to give up. As most of the hurdles seem to be in my self belief I find Laura & this group great. I found week 2 hard but week 3 better so don't give up - the following weeks may well surprise you.
Good for you on getting started! This is a great place to find support, motivation and inspiration.
I'm approaching 50 and also a couple of stones overweight and I found the first week a real struggle. I have now reached W7 and am able to run for 25 minutes non-stop, so it is definitely achievable. Don't worry about speed, just keep up a nice, steady rhythm going as slowly as you need to complete each run.
Keep at it, it will get easier, I promise!
GASP! PANT! And all that! But congratulations on starting and keeping up as you are able. Everything 'turns' right in the mind, and most wonderfully. Ask any of us once-were's. It will be wonderful, no matter the 'stats'.
Well done for starting. I've just finished W1. I found the second run far easier. I seemed to manage my breathing much better. Maybe because I knew my route and what was coming. Stick with it x
