Has anyone had or got a callus on their foot?

I have over the last month or so developed a callus on the side of the ball of my foot. Does this mean my trainers are no longer cushioning my feet? I have just read on the NHS website that they can develop through running and your GP can refer you for treatment. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Actually just yesterday I noticed a really hard callus on the end of both my second toes. It doesn't hurt and I don't feel it when I run, but I can only assume that's where they've come from.

I wasn't sure whether I should do something about them or whether they're just a side effect of running and the repeated rubbing effect. I don't want to end up with hooves! I am seeing a physio for my knees so I was going to ask her about it when I see her next week. Interested to hear if anyone has any advice.

Callus is a response to friction and is the body's way of protecting itself. If it does not hurt its probably doing you a good job. You'll be asking more of your feet with the running and they take a pounding. If you have no other symptoms I would just get something like a foot file from the body shop (under a fiver) and after a good soak give it a file to avoid it getting too think. Then moisturise! Do this routinely. Feet need love which we often don't give them! I used to work as a state registered podiatrist in the nhs btw! I think they say about 500 miles for a good pair of runners before they need replacing. Hope this helps!

Dellacat that's very interesting - I'll get foot filing and see if that helps. I should definitely show my feet some love - they've been very good to me recently getting me through the programme so it's time I showed them some appreciation :-)

Thanks for the advice.

Thankyou. Your advice is pretty much what I'd read anyway so I'll get my pumice stone out! My trainers are very comfy and didn't really want to replace them.
