Having just got back into running following a glute strain at the end of March, my physio was pleased with my progress and I was back up to 10k last weekend, I managed somehow to badly strain my calf muscle while crossing the road (walking!). It felt like a sharp snap and I barely made it to the other side, fortunately I was near a bus stop and had my husband with me - with his help I managed to hop on and off the bus to home.
Three days on and here I am on the couch, leg elevated, hobbling around on crutches still unable to bear weight on the leg. This is a bad one and I have had to reconcile myself that my half marathon plans are well and truly over, I'm really disappointed but it isn't meant to be. I feel awful, both selfishly for myself and also letting the charity down.
If anyone has any experience of calf strain rehab I'd welcome advice.
One last point, on my last run I forgot to take my phone and emergency money like I usually do but didn't worry too much. Now I can see how suddenly and seriously these things can strike it's a timely reminder of how vital it is to always make sure we have our phones and emergency money on us.....
