hi everyone , i’ve got asthma/emphasyma/ copd , and it’s usually well controlled by my inhalers , but for the 4/5 months i’ve had this chronic productive cough, ive sent in sputum samples it’s clear/cream colour ,,,, and showed no infection , it’s becoming exhausting,,, i feel well in myself and continue my life as normal as possible , and NORMALLY for me i only i have a productive cough if i’ve got a chest infection , any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Nanny1086, I'm sorry that you're having problems coughing all the time. I also have Emphysema but do not produce much sputum. Do you take Carbocisteine? It's a mucolytic that helps to thin your phlegm making it easier to cough it up. I take 2 tablets 3 times a day and, in my case, I tend to get a runny nose which is the sputum (I think) clearing itself. At least you're samples are showing clear from infection. Do you have a rescue pack prescribed on your repeat prescription? Mine consists of prednisolone & anti-biotics so If I feel the need I can take them. Take good care and stay well.
