Hello! Looking forward to being a part of the group.
My post today is to simply ask for some education on COPD as my mother is stage 4 and I’d like to understand more so I can help take care of her better!
Any advice or information on the illness will be very much appreciated!

Welcome to the site Caitbrooks, hope both you and your mom are doing well. The only advice I can give is, make sure your mum drinks plenty and has a good healthy diet. That she takes her madication and is comfortable. Just keep doing everything you aare doing now. It will be hard at times for both of you all but we are always here for you and remember never be afraid to as either your GP or hospital if needed. Hope this helps have a wonderful day both of you and let us know how your mam is doing take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxx 🌹
There is simply SOOOO much to learn and understand. I have been trying to learn as much as I can about COPD for over 10 years and I still learn new things all the time. Your best bet is to keep reading the posts, join numerous COPD support groups (as some focus on different aspects), and feel free to ask specific questions you may have.
First thing I would do is don't focus on "stage 4" diagnosis. Take medicine as prescribed - no slacking. Get into Pulmonary Rehab or look it up online and have her start that twice a week. These are exercises just for COPD folk and help strengthen the muscles we need. These are not hard core gym workouts. If she can't get into one thru her doctor then there are U tube ones to follow along with. She will have good days and bad days. Look everything up online as it comes up. Don't take just one view on things. Like the "stage 4" thing makes it sound like she is on her last legs but many of us have been "stage 4" for years. I have been stage 4 for over 8 years and I feel I am doing as good as I am because of the Pulmonary rehab exercises.
