After my last LC surgery, I was unable to wear a bra for 4 months. I agree with the article, not wearing a bra is so much more comfortable (normally). The only reason I am back to wearing it at all is because it helps with the nerve pain by giving some support. I am 61, have worn a bra my entire adult life, so now without one sagging is an issue. The sagging pulls on the nerves and that (because of my surgery) causes nerve pain. I do try to not wear one when I am staying home. I also have emphysema, I can breathe better when not wearing a bra.

If I had a daughter, I would encourage her to never start wearing a bra.

I appreciate your view and comment. And, I agree, there might be times it is necessary to wear a bra. I, myself, never felt comfortable with one. Felt like a tight bandage was wrapped around me, so I never wore a bra most of my life and I am 70, now.

I think they are one of the worst things ever invented.

I am so glad and relieved there is someone else out there that feels the same as I always have felt!

I used to wear one every day, I was taught that women wore bra's. (I was programmed) It wasn't until after my last surgery when I couldn't wear one that I realized how truly uncomfortable they really are.

in reply to Feelingblessed2013

Yes, I too was programmed and so I wore one when I was a teenager. Then, I married young and began to make my own decisions and decided that bras were not comfortable, nor very useful, as I could tell.

You are lucky, it took me many years to realize how bad for us they really are.

I can't believe we are the only ones in this conversation...LOL Aren't there other women that hate bras and do not wear them?

There has to be more women.

Wait....a glimmer of light....it looks like we have another person joining the conversation, Usern has asked a question.

What bra? 😀

Any bra, all bra's. Are you a bra wearer, or do you prefer to be free?

I've been free for about ten years. It's the little things like this that make us the happiest, I do believe. 😀

I agree. I still wear mine when absolutely necessary (like today, it's too warm for layered clothing, and we are taking mom in law out to dinner) but I hate it. I need to retract that statement....managed to wear it for about 10 minutes, had to take it off. I don't care, my comfort and ability to breathe is more important to me.

Have a great day :)

Yes, I know those absolutely necessary times. We can't burn our bras just yet. Haha. Hope you forget your "over the shoulder boulder holder" and have a good time!

Got it. Good for you!!

Hi! I don't layer per sé, I wear a camisole on top under my blouses so my nips do not show through.

I don't have any camisoles, at least none that still fit. I gotta get some.

I had to go out of my way a couple times to actually go shopping for some as I only had one and it was snug. Nice ones seem hard to find as I did not want fancy, lacy ones that would be itchy, but just basic. Found some at KMart.

Thank you, I will definitely check Kmart

I don't wear a bra at home , but my breasts are so heavy, I need something to hold them up ..

in reply to sally1b2b

I never had that so I can't imagine any difficulty but, perhaps some women do need the support. If I had large breasts plus COPD, I would think I would really be breathless. Thank you for your input.

I have the same problem. I have COPD and bra's constrict my breathing, but when I don't wear one my breasts are so heavy that they constrict my breathing. I am thin and never had these things until I got older. I feel like making a neck sling to hold them up lol.

I hate bras and actually buy clothes that you can’t tell your not wearing one!
