Sharp pain in chest

I have COPD and asthma. I have not had a cold or the flu and not running a temp. I was standing last week in my classroom and I got a sharp pain in my side by my breast. I could barely breath and deep breaths were very painful. I couldn’t sleep on my left side. The pain seemed to ease up as the week went in until yesterday. I took a deep breath and the pain resumed. It feels like some one is stabbing me in the chest and only hurts when I breath. I called and got an appt. with my GP. I am assuming/hoping it is only pleurisy. Lung cancer runs deep in our family so any pain around the lung is frightening. I would like some of your thoughts on what it could be. Thanks

That almost sounds like an injured rib. Have you fallen or bumped into anything recently? It’s hard to tell in that area. Could be almost anything. Good luck and God bless.

I haven’t done anything to injure a rib unfortunately. I was just standing there. That is what scares me. Having trouble breathing now

It was pleurisy thank goodness. Steroids for 5 days. If that doesn’t get it I will need a chest X-ray. Took my first dose this afternoon and have a lidocaine patch on. Seems to be helping. Hopefully this will get it. Thanks everyone for their help.

Hello Mustang, I would wait and see the doc before you get to worried.

One has many ache and pains with COPD and many have a good explanation.

I have had a big issue with my COPD, but now on the road to recovery, in October I was in hospital and away from my home for many weeks. Mucus was blocking my air way ( did not even know this as had no symptoms)

Had a ct scan and that showed a tumor in my left lung. Was life-lined to Denver, had a stent put in, came back home, started radiation and low does chemo. Have finished both of those just yesterday. The tumor has shrunk so much docs are amazed. I am home and doing great. Also have not had any adverse reactions to either of the treatments.

My advise is to listen to your doctor, hopefully you have a good pulmonary doc. Many did not want me to do chemo, but made up my own mind and went ahead with the chemo. Chemo makes the radiation work better. I go back to doc end of January , will re-evaluate then.

Good luck and sending many prayers your way. I have had so many sending me prayers , some from those I don’t even know. To me, they work wonderful. Wishing you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a great NEW YEAR. Good luck.

Merry Christmas. Sorry you are going through this. I have lost many family from lung cancer so I worry. Thank goodness the steroids worked.

Could it be pneumonia in that lung
