One more question for today. :) Rib pain?

Do any of you have rib pain from copd? I have had it for almost 2 yrs. They did all sorts of tests on me, and found nothing wrong. Still have no answers. I'm guessing it must be my diagnosis of copd that is making my rib scream.

It is along the bottom of my right ribcage, and it can be so bad I can't stand to even push on it.

Just curious if this has happened to anyone here. My Dr. told me (before the copd thing) that I worry too much. Not true, but I do wonder what the problem is when I hurt that much, for so long.

Thanks guys,

God bless.

Hi Phyllis,

Yep, I also have a rib pain, dont know if it is from copd or just a separate issue. Mine is a stabbing pain along my lower left back ribs, Doc's couldn't find anything either. Seems to throb when I sit a certain way for awhile...Anyway, Did you find the quit support area here on health unlocked? healthunlocked.com/quitsupport ....lots of great help and people on there. I understand the tiredness and lack of motivation when dealing with huge life changes. But, I don't look at the diagnosis of COPD as a death sentence, anymore than someone else with a chronic disease that can respond to treatment and life style changes. COPD can and does respond, but the life-changes to feel better, like not smoking, also have side effects...including tiredness, sleepiness, lack of motivation, and depression. But friend support and your Doc's can get you through all of it.

Hi Phyllis, I too get rib pains, for me it's like having stitch, the feeling being the same with my lower ribs, mainly on the right, being pushed outward and my ribs digging inward, if that make sense. I've put on a little weight since giving up smoking. That has hindered my mobility somewhat. I understand that the lower lung area drops creating an elongated lung which come to rest on the diaphragm. Picturing it in my mind, I can see how everything in that area comes under stress from the weight from above, thus causing distension which could be the reason for the pain. I'm no doctor but those are my thoughts. Hope it helps.

hi yes I did it not so bad now since having vitamin d supplements and not drinking so much coffee. At one point it seemed to be related to lower respiratory infection from high Ige levels. Think the best you can do if its not diagnosed as anything and is probably seen as a side effect of COPD is do things to ease it like gentle swimming, water is a great benefit in many ways also keep well hydrated. I noticed the pain worse when I was dehydrated. Check the colour of your urine if its dark there's a clue you could be dehydrated which is common with COPD and it does cause pain. /live as healthy as you can i.e. Lifestyle....diet, exercise, keeping positive. /Record when your pain is worse and see if it tally's with any particular activity or something you've eaten especially if it is colicky. best wishes xxx

Yes I have pain across rib cage and I just think it from Copd. I think we have to breathe so hard it hurts. I dont show any thing in xrays. I also have two thoracic spinal fractures and had to have cement put in and sometimes I feel that adds to it.. I just wonder if our lungs swell and cause it

My doctor said I may not have enough magnesium. Just a thought you might want to check.
