@Cynmp, Are you on oxygen? I know you will be tired and sleepy and probably have a headache if your O2 levels are too low while you sleep. I also am a CO2 retainer. I use a bi-pap machine when sleeping. There are several lung exercises to help expel the CO2 from your lungs. The best one is to breathe in thru your nose, counting while you breathe in, then purse your lips, like you are blowing out a candle, slowly blow out, counting twice the number of breathing in. Breathe in thru the nose four seconds, purse your lips and gently blow out for 8 seconds.

I hope you understand my explanation, I am not very good at explaining things in writing! Hope this helps...

Thanks for the info, yes, I 'm on o2, 24/7 and we have to watch my #'s, they want me to keep my o2sat at 90-91,so we're playing with the concentrater,up down. I do thee pursed lip breathing also. I feel kinda weird about support group but I am really having a hard time, and this disease sucks! I don't leave my home now and I have other issues probably like everyone else.Well, I did it,hi everyone!!!

Cynmp, 90-91 sounds pretty low to me. My resting rate is usually 97. It does go lower if I'm doing things.Usually your Dr. will tell you what to set your machine at. Adjusting the concentrator is dependant on what you are doing not usually dependant on your sat amt. such as my Dr. says to set mine at 3. But if I'm cleaning or doing things I would set it a little higher say at 4 or 4 1/2

I am 72 and on oxygen 24/7 but do not have headaches so cannot help out there have you found out how much oxygen is getting in to your body with some tests?

Your brain could be short o getting enough oxygen?

I have one of those little things you put on your finger to test your O2. I test it at least 3 times a day.

Hi Cynmp; I sometime have a headache when I wake up, doctor said it could be caused from co2 or a lack of oxygen. If I get up and move around for a few minutes it goes away.

I found out after dealing w. the headaches for years upon waking that too much oxygen will give them to you. Use your pulseoxymeter. I try to stay at 93 or so. Too much will give you palpations and too little dysnepia. short of breath. When I exerise on a treadmill I have to go to 5 lt while on it then turn it back down to 2-3. good luck!

Thanks everyone for responding, this is really getting hard and my boyfriend wanted for me to reach out to others for ideas and who understands this disease.

Yes everyday. Don't know why. Wake up with them most mornings. I am on oxygen and am wondering if 2 is no longer enough while sleeping.

Headaches can be a sign of your CO2 levels being too high. They need investigating.

Hi Toci, thanks for responding, I have told my Drs about this and all thats getting me is maybe I might qualify for a c-pap but I need more history, I was flown out of my little town with copd and pumonia and I spent 2 weeks in the hospita, that was in March and now I was told I have 40% lung function left. I on o2 now 24/7.wow, I am sorry I am rattling on and on, I don't even talk about this with my adult children. I was just getting used to being disabled and now this...

I have been a 24/7 oxygen user for about 9 years now - you get used to it. I've just been given a Bi-PAP machine to deal with the high CO2 as I also seem to retain it and the headaches can be very bad. Talking is easier on here (and the BLF forum healthunlocked.com/blf ) because we are talking to people who know exactly where we are coming from - because they are in the same place.

So sorry it is scary and mishearing at times but I'm learning more on here than docs have ever shared

Headaches are common...I was put on a bipap machine and it has helped a bunch. Stops the co2 retention.

I HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH MY COPD AFFLICTION FOR THE PAST 9 YEARS AND HATE EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I WAS AT ONE TIME VERY ACTIVE AND NOW I HAVE SLOWED DOWN QUITE A BIT. AS FAR AS HEADACHES, I DO SEEM TO GET SHORT HITS WITH THEM ON A DAILY BASIS. I ASKED A FEW DOCTORS WHAT THE CAUSE MAY BE, BUT AS USUAL WITH THE DOCTORS THAT ARE AROUND THE STATES TODAY, THEY WERE CLUELESS. I SEEM TO FEEL THAT THEY OCCUR MORE OFTEN WHEN I RAISE THE LEVEL OF OXYGEN FROM MY CONCENTRATOR OR MY TANKS. CAN'T PROVE IT THOUGH. I ALSO HAD A BRAIN ANEURYSM IN LATE JANUARY 2016 SO NOW I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS CAUSING ANY. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND DON'T GIVE UP.
