COPD recently diagnosed. Open to alternative treatments that help.

I've reviewed standard treatments for copd, mostly including nebulizers, 02 therapy, and inhalers. I'm interested in alternative treatments that have worked for others (ozone therapy, chinese herbs, etc.)

A friend of mine has bad copd i believe stage 3 or 4. She uses marijuana oil. She eats a couple drops of it a couple times a day. It helps her a lot.

I also use CBD oil (non psychoactive, no THC) full spectrum. I find it does help to relax airways.

Yes me too, I have a really bad cough, not there all of the time, comes in a spasm about twice or three times a day but I can’t stop coughing until I am sick or manage to cough up clear but thickish mucus, is this caused by COPD or something else like allergies.

Anyway whatever causes it , I would like to be able to control it as it is mega embarrassing and I am almost scared to go to the cinema etc. Any ideas would be helpful, Thankyou in advance.

As my consultant ended my consultation some years ago he advised me to always have some sweets with me. Didn't say when or how. Trial and error, I now always have some hard menthol and eucalyptus lozenges (Fisherman's Friend) wherever I go in case I have an uncontrollable tickle . That nearly immediately calms me down and stops me coughing. Worth trying.

I would strongly advise you to see a physician about your cough. I have stage 4 emphysema and have been dealing with it for more than ten years. My sister was so kind to me, she would take me to lunch, always celebrated my birthday with me, and even though she was three years my senior, I was secretly glad that I would likely check out before she did. A couple of years ago, we (my brother-in-law and I) finally convinced her to see a doctor about a bad sounding cough she had for months and it turned out to be pulmonary fibrosis. I lost my wonderful sister about two months ago. Please see a physician.

Hi robertchakra, I'm also interested in this. I've been diagnosed recently and last week had a first acupuncture session. It could be the placebo effect, but I did feel more able to breathe deeply afterward. I'm going for the second session tomorrow. The acupuncturist said she has had good results with people who have asthma--which I don't, but I'm going to do five or six sessions and then evaluate, I'll try to remember to update this when I'm at that point.

I've not yet done acupuncture, to date only Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM), as well as some western herbs (mullein, ginger, thyme, pleurisy root) and other supplements (N A C , Elderberry). Acupuncture is on the list and when I do, I will post.

You ask about alternative treatments. I'm assuming you are aware that "alternative" means (in most cases) non FDA approved. However I'm using something that IS FDA approved even though most patients AND doctors have never heard of it. It is a Russian device called the Frolov breathing device. I also use a American nebulizer liquid called Brovana 2X per day. I use the FBD 1X at night for 20 minutes.

My situation at the present time: I DO have emphysema, diagnosed 10 years ago. Unless I tax myself (inclines, stairs, etc) I don't even know I have it. I go about my daily routine like anyone else. Making beds used to tax my breathing but not so much these days.

PS: I quit smoking 34 years ago. Had I not I wouldn't be here today. I am not looking for controversy or arguments. I can't say what will or will not help anyone. i can only state my current situation which may or may not remain stable.

thank you so much morehope. I had read up on Frolov device and can understand the reasoning. It is relatively inexpensive also. I prefer nebulizing, though I only do so if severe problems. Will look into Brovana Thank you so much.

I feel like a broken record as I keep responding with the same answer, the one I've found, still working after 2 years. I qualify, was diagnosed with TB of all things, went through a year of antibiotics, have smoked forever (still do a bit) Well after the TB, was suffering from chronic pnuemonia, hospitalized frequently. I was told, I would need inhalers, oxygen, steriods for the remainder of my days. I rejected this, sought out alternatives, my inhaler is a tea I make from raw ginger, chaga mushrooms, other medicinal mushrooms I find... I take NAC. My work requires a lot vof hiking, rustic furniture. I haven't had a cold, nothing for two years, haven't been to a doctor either. Every time I see someone struggling with an O2 tank, I want to stop them and tell them what I have discovered ( all this discovered centuries ago) Please look into it, get your life back!

Hi Newfie1, that sounds very interresting. Can you give me some more Info on this? I was diagnosed with COPD about Years ago. I still smoke on and off, trying to quit.
