I have been on steroids for almost 6 months and lately I've noticed that my face is very puffy. I started out at 60 mg and have tapered down to 20 mg. I don't understand why my face is more puffy now than when I was taking a higher dose. Has anyone else had this problem.?

Steroids

Hi Bcat9251; Steriods are very bad for you and you should avoid them all together. The puffy face is just one of the side effects of this drug, you are retaining fluid in your body and maybe your lungs too. Steriods are very bad for the heart and with this fluid build up if you have heart issues at this time it will only makes your breathing worst. there are many drugs the doctor's can give you instead of steroids, my doctor doesn't give them to me as he knows how I feel about them so he works around the issue and I do get over my flares outside of the hospital. Speak up and let the doctor know that you are against taking them, it's your body and if you don't take care of it no one will. You are in control
Thank you for the advice. I miss my pulmonary doctor, who is out on medical leave. My general practitioner does her best.
I have to take them when an abcess on my sygmoid colon ruptured and they saved me life. You are right though, they are not to be taken lightly
I knew I has moon face I'm gaining over twelve lbs Marg and swollen feet ans ankles fluid. I ask my bone doc to taper me off steroids ans he was then lung doc put.me back on with theophylline which he says will make bone fractures. I also have high bp. And kidney stones.i m lost here
my head looked like a basket ball by the time they got me off of the steriods. Cant' complain they saved my life. Now take a much lower dose in the form of nebulizer. Only problem w/ the steriods is now I'm working like crazy to get the weight off. I have never been this heavy and I HATE it. going to the gym, walking, weights, it' all helps get oxygen to my muscles but still cant lose it. Oh well, better to be a bit heavy 185 and be on the right side of the grass. lol
That is so true! I haven't really gained weight but I hate the puffiness in my face and my swollen feet. I breathe better so I shouldn't complain.
Struggling to get off of them . They've become a crutch. I hate the current side effects but when I read the long term affects, OMG!!! I would rather breath a little less than lie to myself about whatever stage I'm in after 13yrs.
Moon face, is one name for it. Go to mayo clinic or Web m.do and do your research . I run any and everything I read about past my family physician .
