anyone had did mri for small intestines and rectum before?? I’m doing one tmr and wanna know more because recently I kept having a lot of fluctuations especially after food and sometimes quite uncomfortable so the doc told me to drink the dye and inject as well cos it’s a more detailed mri so I’m wondering anyone did before on small intestines and how is the dye consumption? Any one consume the dye before and any results on your MRI on small intestines. I’m anxious

Hi Mondlee,

Interesting. I have not had this done. I hear it gives a very detailed view of the small intestine. So, you're going to drink some contrast and also have contrast via an IV. I get a contrast IV before my annual CT scans and have no issues with it and I attribute that to being very hydrated. Especially on scan day. I'm talking 64-80 ounces of hydration like Gatorade or similar that has electrolytes. You pee more and flush out the body quicker.

I wouldn't be anxious about it. It sounds like an awesome way to see what's going on and get some answers. I hope someone else on this site can share their input from actually having had this done. This is also something that doesn't involve radiation and that's a good thing if you have a lot of these type procedures done.

We wish you all the best and please let us know how it goes for you. Hydrate !!!🚰🫗⛲😁

Hey Tom thank you for the reply. I’m waiting to see the doctor. Waiting for my MRI result. The oral contrast is call barium sulfate suspension , I’m having diarrhea now, I don’t know is it a side effect from it

Hi Mondlee,

Way to go👍👏👏. It is a side effect. Don't worry. Keep hydrated and it should work itself out.👍❤️

I've had more than one MRI as well as CT scans because I had colon cancer. The test was a breeze. I rememeber drinking a big cup of something and gettting a shot that felt warm going through me, especially in the genital area. But the test is a pice of cake. The MRI machine is very noisy but I even fell asleep in it once because I took something to realx my nerves wich was totally unesssessary.

Thank you for the reply, I had went for the scan and got my result, everything came back good but I’m still wondering why am I still having so many farts after my food.

Anyway can you share more on your initial colon symptoms so that maybe more people can know. I had a colonoscopy done last year Oct, 2 benign polyps and 1 precancerous polyp and will be doing my colonoscopy again in Oct this year to make sure everything is good, I am very afraid for GI issue. So how have you been going on, any special diets or even symptoms or any problems with pooping along the way thru your diagnose or even solutions to your current situation

I had a specialist tell me that everyone over 50 should have a colonoscopy. So, she did one and found 4 polyps, two of the kind that can turn into cancer. She told me to come back in 1 year and then just found two little “pimples” she called them and zapped them. Told me to come back in 3 years and found nothing. Then another 5 years- nothing. Then she said 7 years. But in 2017 after about 4 years, I was having trouble going to the bathroom in the morning. Instead of drinking my coffee and having a poop, I was pooping 5 times all morning and they were pencil thin. I Googled and it indicated a possible obstruction. This made sense to me since my Dad, uncle and two cousins had had colon cancer. The tumour was quite large. Amazing that after having small polyps that I could grow such a large tumor in 4 years. I got a colonoscopy as fast as I could and learned that I had Type 3C colon cancer. I had the tumour removed and got an ileostomy as well as 6 months of chemo. After a year the Ileostomy was reversed. I’ve had a lot of bathroom problems over the years, especially in the first 7 months after the reversal but I’m so glad that I got this in time. I now am to have a colonoscopy every three years although the surgeon told my wife that everyone should have one every two years. With all that colon cancer in the family, my genetic test was negative for the gene. The Oncologist told me that the chance of my cancer returning is approximately Zero.

Regarding special diets, I now include salad every day and bran cereal in the morning., I've been drinking 3 tablespoons of psyllium husk after dinner. Over the years I've had accidents where I could not make it 20 feet to the bathroom, as well as constipation. I also include a Senokot laxative every night. It's all a pain in the butt but on the bright side I am 65 pounds lighter than I was in 2017
