Hi, I’m 32 yo mom, normal weight, eating organic, non smoker, rarely drink.. I found small maroon blood clots in my poo today when pressed the blood was bright red, my poo has been a bit darker and softer than usual lately, but I go every day. My mom passed away at 58 last year from colon cancer and I am freaking out. Will call the doctor tomorrow for a colonoscopy, but was just wondering if anyone else has had these symptoms and turned out to be something different from cancer? I’ve also have been having low abdomen cramping or dull pain on occasion with some bloating. Thank you

Hi Leprossion,

Thank you for posting in Colon Cancer Connected. Hate to hear you are having these issues. I'm sorry to hear about your mom. Do you know if you have anything hereditary going on in your family. You could ask to do some genetic testing to determine that. My family has a history of it and the genetic testing helped determine what surveillance was needed to catch things early. Knowing your biomarkers is a good thing and important.

Something about biomarkers:

The best thing you can be doing is exactly what you are doing ... getting it checked out by your doctor. You are right as the next step is a colonoscopy that will go a long way in determining what you have going on.

Even with the lower abdominal pain, there could be all kinds of different reasons for what you are experiencing. Just focus on getting the answers and your colonoscopy scheduled.

I'm sure others on this site will tell you their stories of non-cancer related issues with similar symptoms.

We wish you all the best in getting answers. Please let us know how your colonoscopy.

Thank You,

Hi Ker2cr, I saw a doctor and they checked for hemorrhoids - all clear. As I didn’t have much else going on, they thought it was gastroenteritis as sometimes it can cause blood in stool. They did a blood test and a urine test and actually said that my bloods were excellent. They still booked me in for a colonoscopy in August to makes sure all is well. I haven’t had any symptoms since that day, so hopefully it’s was something viral.
