Daily rectal bleeding after bowel motion.

Hi, I guess I am looking for advice from people going through something similar. All the posts I have read about bleeding after bowel motions seem to be more on and off rather than daily and small amounts of blood.

I am a 47 male and have been having blood on the toilet paper after every bowel motion for 2.5 weeks. The blood is bright red and usually follows a movement rather than being on the stool. (But I have also seen it on the surface of the poo.) As soon as I have wiped a couple of times, the blood stops and it does not bleed in-between but there is a fairly large amount of it. There are no clots etc. It does happen every movement which is generally once a day or sometimes once every two days. There are no other pain or symptoms at all apart from an occasional gassy stomach. No weight loss or lack of appetite and bowel motions are the same as they have always been. Possibly a little on the hard side and brown to dark brown in colour.

I have been to the Dr and had an digit examination and she didn't find any obvious internal/external hemmoroid's. She also didn't feel anything on the abdominal exam. But she did put me on the 2 week pathway.

Blood tests and a stool inflammation test (Calprotein ?) tests came back normal but the FIT test came back as abnormal. I wasn't surprised about this because there is very clearly bleeding.

I am booked in for a colonoscopy in about a weeks time but am very nervous as am fearing the worst.

Hi Lear1234,

Thank you for posting in Colon Cancer Connected. Sorry you are having these issues and it looks like you are taking all the precautions and have scheduled a colonoscopy. You and your doctor are in the pursuit of information and that's where you should put your energy.

As hard as it is, try to not let the anxiety nerves get to you too much. (I know that it is a lot easier said than done!). Our GI systems are very sensitive to stress and anxiety and can make symptoms worse. Focus on getting the answers and you are doing that.

Please stay positive. You aren't experiencing abdominal pain or have many other symptoms. I would say you are in good doctor hands because I would have suggested a colonoscopy as the next step. And please look at this colonoscopy as a way to gain a lot of information about your colon and hopefully will produce the reason you are experiencing these symptoms.

We wish you the very best in results. You are definitely taking the right steps. Please keep us informed as your journey can definitely help others.👍
