I have also smoked for 3 years but I haven’t smoked in two days so far that has been easy! I’m just so scared of colon, rectal

Get it checked out by a doctor. Don’t just ignore it

Ask for a calprotectin test to check inflammation in your bowel. It could be IBD - Chron’s disease or ulcerative colitis

I’ve suffered with mucus for a really long time. I’d pass it with a stool and sometimes on its own. All variations of colour too.

I did a big MOT on myself and paid for a private blood test to check for intolerances. Turns out I’m dairy intolerant which can cause mucus.

My doctor ordered a full blood count including Calprotectin which came back 230 when the range is up to 60. Also had a FIT test to check for blood which came back negative. The doctor though I had raised levels of inflammation and suggested an endoscopy.

Interestingly my bloods identified an underactive thyroid which causes bowel issues. I’ve been taking thyroxine since October and repeated my Calprotectin and it’s now within normal range.

If I have dairy and I will 100% pass mucus so I think mine was food related. Have you got any food intolerances yourself? It’s worth looking at your diet.

Hey honestly not that I know of I haven’t been eating a lot lately because I’m scaring myself so bad. My blood work 3 years ago said my thyroid was a little high but nothing concerning. It just scares me so bad. I just hope and pray it’s nothing serious everything I have looked up says something awful.

I have been eating a lot of honeycombs lately but as far as I know I never had a dairy tolerance. Was it hard for you to go sometimes like you felt like you needed to go but couldn’t?

Yes always felt like I could pass more if that makes sense. I’ve also been taking a daily sachet of fybogel which definitely makes a positive difference

I hate being scared three years ago I had elevated level of transaminase and lactic acid dehydrogenase which made me look up stuff and it was not good. But at the time my doctor didn’t seem upset about it and I had mixed hyperlipidemia. I just hope and pray I don’t have anything life threatening so far I’m scared to death :(

Hi Lj8403,Thank you for posting in Colon Cancer Connected. I'm sorry that these symptoms are causing you anxiety.

Looking at the responses, you've gotten some excellent feedback. You should and are going to see your doctor for some blood work on Friday. There are a lot of tests that can happen from that as far as a cancer check. Ask for a CEA. You could even have a FIT kit submitted.

What are the underlying reasons for your concern it's cancer? Does your family have a cancer history?

It's always good to put time and energy into obtaining information about what's going on. That is key. There are a lot of reasons for your going to the bathroom issues. From Tenesmus to IBS or even a food disorder being the cause. These are all symptoms your need to cover with your doctor.

Please stay positive. Don't be scared and focus on gaining information. You're getting a lot of great feedback here.

We wish you the very best and please keep us informed. What you learn and helps you can have a potential benefit to others.

Hi no one in my family has ever had those kinds of cancers. I have it’s, depression and anxiety ever since my husband was killed in Afghanistan on our sons first birthday. So ever since then if I have any new symptoms or something new I always think the worst I wish I didn’t but I do. I am so scared that they will find something and then my son will have lost another parent and I don’t want to leave him he is my world.

Hi Lj8403,

I am so sorry for the loss of your husband. You are dealing with a lot. We all owe a great deal of gratitude for the sacrifices our soldiers make so many of us can live the lives we do. We thank him and honor him and your family for your service.

I know there are many organizations out there that may be able to help you through this time. I know you are your son's rock and need to be there for him.

I am a stage 4 colon cancer survivor. My cancer is a hereditary one called Lynch Syndrome. I am doing ok now. Given my biomarkers, I am a likely candidate to get cancer again. I know this. I do get annual screenings and if something does come up, we will catch it early. That is key. Whenever I get some symptom occurring, my mind does go "there" and if it persists, I will get it checked out.

I know your anxiety and depression are very tough to deal with and getting any kind of symptom causes you to go "there". You are very young with no hereditary history of cancer. There are many screenings you can do to hopefully give you peace of mind and the ability to work your symptoms. You should work closely with your doctor with that.

Given my cancer history, I do several things annually that screen for any reoccurrence that may come up. Even if I'm not having any symptoms. That does give me peace of mind.

I would tell your doctor flat out that you need to be there for your son. What do you need to be doing heath wise to make that happen? Having a plan and executing that plan can be very beneficial.

I hope your doctor meeting Friday goes well. I do wish you and your son the very best. Your path is difficult. Your journey is honorable. It's not going to be easy, but you have to. I wish I could reach out and give you a big hug right now.🤟❤️

Please keep us informed.

You are going through a lot. But you need to focus on what you can control which is being your own advocate for getting the best healthcare for yourself. No use getting anxious over things you can’t control.

My doctor wasn’t concerned at all she said it could be IBS or just my diet usually mucus in your poop is not a sign of colon or rectal cancers. She told me to come back in a year. Also I am borderline diabetic so I have to change my diet which will hopefully make my poop go back to normal. The blood in my urine was just from me being on my period. Yesterday I pooped with mucus and my poop was more whitish than brown which scared me to death. But hopefully that is just from what I ate yesterday. But she was very pleased with my blood work other than my triglycerides being high which can be fixed by my diet.
