Hi, I am new to this. I am a 34 year old women, normally very healthy. I really need some answers. Without exaggerating I have extreme pain in my colon. When I look on a diagram it would seem to be the sigmoid colon. It causes me real pain when I pass wind and when go to the toilet. It is so bad that it also hurts when I have normal sex with my husband, and when I use tampons.

This all started with severe abdominal pain in the middle of the night. I have never experienced pain like this before, so I went to my GP the next morning and was admitted to hospital that day. Had some blood taken, urine samples, x-ray of the abdomen and chest, and an ultrasound to test for gal stones. Nothing! I am waiting for an endoscopy appointment now to check the lining of my stomach for ulcers. At the time my pain was everywhere so they (or I) couldn't pin point what it could be. Now almost 2 weeks have gone and my pain is constant at the lower part of the colon. So I'm not convinced I need an endoscopy, but I'm not a doctor so I don't know.

My bowl movements used to always be like clockwork, but now they are random times and less often. I believe the pain was brought on buy something I ate at a restaurant, and I experience the pain again yesterday after something I ate didn't agree with me. I'm scared! This pain up inside me is very worrying! Can anyone relate?

When there is a change in your bowel movements, it is important to see a GP and get a colonoscopy done if required. I was ignorant about bowel cancer and have recently being diagnosed with it so please do yourself a favour before it's too late. I'm not saying you may have it but you need to get it checked out 'cos symptoms for bowel cancer don't show up till very late. All the best.

Hi Tofu888,

I went back to my GP surgery yesterday and was seen by a different doctor who had a look at my bloods from 2 weeks ago and flagged something up. She has asked for a urine and stool sample and they are taking more blood today to compare it to the last lot. I am still in pain, and have not been given any medication. Tue doc said she wants to find the cause and not just throw antibiotics at me and never know what it fixed!

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. I am very sorry to hear your diagnosis, I hope you are ok!

Thank you for replying. I'm awaiting surgery on 29th Aug to remove the tumour for biopsy. Am nervous but feeling very positive which is important. Hope you will be feeling better soon.

Can you let us know what they found out? I seem to have the same symptoms for the last two days, but they are getting better. Debating on whether to go to the doctor. Thanks!
