Thanks to everyone who has responded to my question about the safety of having a deep dental cleaning now that I've been diagnosed with CLL. I have read pretty much all of your messages but just don't have time to respond to everyone individually there have been so many. I'm going to postpone the deep cleaning until after my May blood draw and talk more to my hemo/oncologist doctor about i at that time. I will have another traditional dental cleaning in April and have my dentist prescribe an antibiotic for that. Thanks again and I'm sure as time goes by I'll have more questions.

#1. The dentist or hygienist needs to wear a mask as well as you do no one infects you.

#2. Getting a deep cleaning is not fun but it will keep you healthier to deal with the CLL.

I had my professional dental cleaning last year and had no issues, but this year I developed a bacterial infection. At first, I didn’t really understand what was happening—I thought I might have allergies (even though I’ve never had them). After a week, I developed a high fever with chills (I’m in W&W and feel really good) and had to take antibiotics.

They knew I am a CLL patient, and everything was clean, but this is how my body can react to this treatment. If you feel unwell, contact your doctor immediately.

Wishing you all the best!
