Covid
Hi I had similar problems with paxlovid. I have IBS and it triggered this severely and I had to go to hospital. My consultant said he wouldn’t prescribe it again for me. The hospital gave me infusions of sotrovimab which worked for me. This was at the end of the pandemic and my consultant tells me if I get it again I shouldn’t need anything.

Anne, I'm sorry, but the pandemic has most certainly not ended. The PHEIC (Public Health Emergency of International Concern) was announced ended by Dr Tedros at the WHO, last May, but not the pandemic.
We are still in a big wave, although I hear it has crested. At least for the moment. Until the next variant.
Please don't stop mitigating.
I agree, this covid is certainly not over, and seems very keen to keep providing us with variant after variant. Far from being a 'cold' my friends and family are saying their symptoms are a lot worse this year. Goodness knows what winter will bring.
I agree as many people around me have had it recently, it’s not over. However my consultant doesn’t seem to think it is as life threatening anymore, hence his advice. I will take this up again with him when I next see him.

Depends, I guess, on who is bearing the risk, and does he consider the potential for the disabilities of Long Covid in any way threatening to quality of life?
As Eucalyptus22 said, those pesky variants are always on the prowl for ways they can get past our 'gatekeepers', such as they are.
Grrr. Not you, but his attitude pushes my buttons!! 🤬
My mother ín law stopped taking it after 3 days for this same reason.
Agree that loose stools are surely unpleasant.
However, if Paxlovid shortens your covid disease path or prevents you from ending up with LongCovid I think this may be a price worth paying since it is only for a couple of more days.
Please call your prescribing doctor and drink plenty of liquids. You may consider stopping if you are becoming dehydrated.
I had a severe reaction to Paxlovid and had to discontinue after 3 days. My experience with Covid in Dec 2022 was relatively mild and I recovered fully in about a month. I was in W & W at the time.
I finished the five days on Friday. I got the diarrhea on Tuesday for a single expulsion. The only other side effect was a bad taste sensation from Stevia. I was late with my dose that evening and it was a quick two hour lesson to keep the pace, the coughing came back quickly along with the strong headaches . It’s different for everyone they say and I believe them. Try and stay the course it’s probably a lot less worse than the alternative.
My 2nd day of Paxlovid I left a trail going to the bathroom. It came on without warning. After that I finished the 5 days with no problem. On day 7 tested negative for Covid. On day 10 back to positive. I got hiccup spasms so went to emergency. Got a script for Bacloven. So far so good. As far as Covid they said the Pax takes care of most of the virus. If not all it regroups and you test + again. Same thing happened to me September 2022.
