Julian I don’t know if this is related to the Obinutuzumb ? But my dentist always recommends rubbing a mouth ulcer with toothpaste.

I’ve never tried toothpaste on an ulcer but it sounds like it might be painful (i.e. burny) - maybe it depends on what toothpaste you use.

Sensodyne is what my dentist recommends.

Sorry about that. I had some nasty mouth ulcers during O+V but they started about half way through treatment. What helped me was to up my mouth hygiene. I brushed my teeth after each meal, dental flossed and rinsed with salty water and mouth wash. It took some time but it helped. I maintained this for the rest of the treatment and it was manageable. If I didn't stay on top of it, the painful ulcers were back. Learned very quickly it paid off to spend some time cleaning my teeth thoroughly than suffering later on. If you go over my previous posts, I think I asked about this as well and got lots of great advice.

Since I’ve had CLL I get mouth ulcers more often. I use a product called Kenalog in Orabase and find it’s brilliant - only a small amount of the ointment is needed, applied at bedtime, and the ulcer is usually significantly better after a couple of days. Hope you find something that helps!

I know how painful and debilitating they are having suffered from them all my life. I've been told that the cause was being run down, overstretched or even that I ate too many tomatoes and citrus fruit.

My dentist recommends a mouthwash and gel called Gengigel. It is effective but few pharmacies stock it. I usually buy it from her surgery or from Amazon.

A former elderly student of mine years ago who was a dentist swore by using warm water and hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash. I haven't bought any for ages but I know it was taken off the shelves because of fears of it being used in home-made bomb making.

I had V and O but I didn't get ulcers after the Obinutuzimab.

Best of luck.

Have you ever tried L-Lysine?

No. I am not familiar with this. The Gengigel seems to be effective.

Here’s an article. I’ve seen it work well with mine in the past.

Just another thought my dentist recommends Corsodyl toothpaste but not the mouthwash.

This may be down to your medication, read the contraindications on the paperwork, if this is the cause then maybe a change might be necessary.. alternatively, have a word with your dentist or dental hygienist, they are used to this kind of thing and may be able to advise best method to get rid of it.

If you can get your hands on an asthma steroid inhaler - puff directly onto ulcer. (use in moderation)

I’d be wary of using a steroid inhaler whilst on active treatment given their immunosuppressive action.

Julian, I’ve found bonjela quite effective but mention the issue to your doctor.

I hope you are not suggesting using someone else’s prescription medication on this site.

Take daily doses of L-Lysine until it clears. I think I take 1000 or 500 MG once daily.

I’ve also noticed that sometimes it helps not to brush at night. Seems like the paste irritates ulcers over night or something.

Another term for mouth ulcers is stomatitis. You might try running a web search using that term. There are a lot of sites with info. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

I had them throughout treatment. I still get them when I'm under stress. I hope yours go away asap!

I use a mixture of 1 cup water with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp baking soda for about 30 seconds every 4-6 hours. This was recommended by my oncologist nurse and works for mouth sores during chemotherapy.

I use a product called Frador for my mouth ulcers. You dab it on the ulcer and it seals the ulcer from saliva, numbs the pain, is antiseptic and non steroidal. Unfortunately the company are changing factory and that involves lots of production testing etc so won’t be available again until the autumn.

Please take a note of the name and try to get some - fixes me every time

I occasionally have the same problem. I have convinced myself that jumping on the acyclovir I have for herpes fever blisters, ASAP, stops the process . More important is with a Q-tip or finger tip I use a little dab of lidocaine ointment, now over the counter, for instant total relief 👍

Hello TheFlyer

I use mixed powder of 1 part salt and 2 parts baking soda, add one teaspoon to cup of warm water. I gargle morning and night every day so that when mouth sore does occur the bacteria is removed to allow healing. The solution will typically heal mouth sores in 2-3 days.
