Just been on a 300 mile bike ride and returned with COVID. Don't feel too bad but should I contact consultant. I have had a vaccination about 3 weeks ago.

COVID diagnosis
Time is of the essence if you are deemed to need antiviral support to minimise your risk from COVID-19, so you need to determine that now - particularly with a weekend imminent. The special circumstances during the pandemic to support immunocompromised UK folk are being transitioned, so I'm not sure who you should contact now - hopefully someone from the UK will reply soon about that.
The good news is that whatever response you obtained from your booster should be peaking around now, so hopefully your COVID-19 infection will be mild. You should also get a very good immunity boost against current COVID-19 variants from this infection.
Congratulations on cycling 300 miles/500km!
Neil
I'd report COVID straightaway. If it does take off it can be a serious issue rapidly; best to get the preliminaries out of the way early. And as AussieNeil notes, antiviral measures are most effective if immediately provided.
I hope it's a mild case and you recover quickly.
When you're feeling up to it, a question from a frequent cyclist: do you think you picked up COVID outdoors? Or was there a rest stop / camp situation where exposure was more likely?
I have been operating under the assumption that outdoor transmission was extremely unlikely and not worrying much about immunocompromise while on the bike. Hope that's actually true.
300 mi is impressive - I was working towards that kind of thing pre-CLL but it's on hold for now. Congratulations on reaching that level of fitness.
Hi scryer thanks for reply. I think I may have got it in pub as let guard down after 1st day cycling and was in a crowded pub with rest of lads. No mask.So guess I got what I deserved.
"got what I deserved"
No... just bad luck. If we don't take time to have a pint once in a while then we've let the cancer beat us. Life has to be worth living.
Thanks for the reply... just wanted to make sure I was basing my own risk management on good data.
That was such bad luck, Guinness. However I agree with Neil, that you should contact your team about the possibility of antivirals if you haven’t already done so. CLL and Covid are not a good mix.
My husband ( who was then fit, but aged 70) had just begun treatment when he went down with Covid. As the symptoms were mild initially, he declined Paxlovid antivirals and even continued with his next (immune- suppressing) Obinituzimab infusion.
There was then a rapid deterioration in his condition leading to hospitalisation for several weeks.
I don’t think its worth taking the risk, as you don’t know how well you have responded to your Covid inoculations
Best wishes for a speedy recovery
Congratulations on the bike ride. It wouldn't hurt to contact your care team and get their take on it. Rest up and may the wind always be at your back.🚲
It is late for AVs, but good timing with the booster shot! If you haven't suffered much by now you should be fine.
