Consult with your doctor. The choice and responsibility is an individual one.

I think the general rule, advocated by most top Cll specialists, is that Cll patients should get the non live versions of covid vaccines and boosters. Thats generally true for non live vaccines for the flu and pneumonia too

Since cll is a heterogeneous disease, however, there are very few one size fits all rules for us.

So it’s definitely a good idea to check with your Cll doctor before you take any vaccine. My Cll doctor has recommended all of the above vaccines for me. That doesn’t mean everyone with cll should have the covid vaccine.

And it’s a fluid situation. There are new covid variants called “flirt” making the rounds (yes, flirt is a terrible name for covid). I have read that they think that the current covid booster will help with flirt, but no one knows for sure. I suspect covid might be like the flu as it evolves, meaning new boosters will have to be constantly developed.

That makes your question even more a doctor question to me. A doctor is in a better position to do a risk/benefit analysis. How much danger does the new variant pose to us, how effective is the current booster and how at risk are we to vaccine side effects?

Again, I think the general thinking is that we do get some help from the current booster and that the risk of getting a bad case of covid outweighs the risk of mostly transient side effects (to those who even get side effects). But I still run all vaccines by my doctor, as our knowledge of all things covid can change fast. Medical advice on covid vaccines we get one day can change one day to the next depending on current covid strains, booster efficacy, etc.

So true! I didn't know about FLIRT, thanks for putting that on my radar.

I am a bit curious al444, How you joined in 20 17 presumably as a CLL patient and went through the pandemic, the roll out of vaccines, and after 8-9 offerings are just now asking about this topic?

I didn't see a bio, or any labs, nor a Dx that describes your markers. I'm not prying your information is private to you. However, it is rather difficult to answer an open ended question and do no harm.
