On Allopurinol now and had three infusions of obin. I'm fine but now have constipation. Is this from the Allopurinol?

I didn't have this but it could be. It's listed in its side effects. Try to eat high fibre fruits (apples, pears) and perhaps some yoghurt with oats? I suffered with bad constipation in the past and eating yoghurt with oats and fruit (blueberries, raspberries, banana) and an apple or two a day would usually resolve it for me. Definitely mention it to your doctor though. Are you drinking enough? Hope it resolves soon.

I Took allopurinol for roughly the first three months of treatment with O&V. I used Mira lax, fiber didn't help me. Something else that worked well for me was pistachios. Reading on pistachios they are known for their laxative effect.

Cancer drugs are very constipating. I am concluding O&V at the end of the month. In the first two to three months. I really struggled to come up with a solution. I almost had to go to emergency a couple of times as I was stopped up so bad.Metamucil was a total flop. The fiber would stop me up. Forming a fiber hard ball. I now have a small idea of what child birth might feel like.

Finally my lovely wife went to Walgreens and asked the Pharmacist. She said Metamucil was the worst thing to take. So what worked when constipation was at its worst was a 14oz glass of water with a capfull of mirrorlax morning and night along with stool softener to go with. As I transitioned to just Venetoclax. I was able to just have one glass of water with one capful of mirrorlax with two stool softeners. That has worked consistently for the last 6 months. Being able to pass daily is a relief!.

As I end treatment I will ease off that protocol.

If I drink warm fat bowel movement is guaranteed. Same story with milk because I'm somewhat lactose intolerant.

If you suspect allopurinol is the cause, you could ask your doctor if you still need the allopurinol. I was able to stop it about 3 months in on O&V. At that point my lymphocytes had decreased as had my enlarged nodes so my risk of tumor lysis was no longer a concern. I had a lot of unpleasant side effects from the allopurinol so I was happy to come off of it.

Lovelybirds,

I have been on allopurinol for gout for about twenty years. I have not had problems with constipation, rather quite the opposite.

We are individuals with individual responses. Definitely a question for your doctor.

Consider looking at a dietary and hydration strategy.
