I also have a pretty bad cold at the moment with an upper respiratory infection which is causing an irritating dry cough. I also cannot take ibuprofen but am taking paracetamol. I’m not on treatment presently and find that any cold remedy meds are more governed by other conditions than the CLL. However, you need to speak to your medical team for individual advice on this.
In terms of the Sinutab you used to take, it’s not advised for the following people. Those with heart disease or high blood pressure (hypertension). People with an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism). People with a tumour of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma). People with diabetes.
Keep an eye on your temp and oxygen sats (if you have a meter). I tend to consult the doctor only if the cold appears to be moving onto my chest or my general observations change (such as higher temperature or pulse),
Thanks for your comment. I just started vacation yesterday and was feeling cold symptoms runny nose at times and then stuffiness on arrival in Florida. I dont have diabetes or the other conditions you mentioned . Last time I had this stuffy nose it cleared up in a few days. I take higjt blood pressure pills irbesartin for years and pressure is good. I am on Ibruvica for 3 years 9 months as well as valocyclovir.
In general, the pharmacies here in the U.K. won’t sell you oral decongestants if you have high blood pressure. Hoping it will clear up without you needing it.
When I start getting a stuffy nose and irritating cough, I take Coricidin (sp) tablets. They are specifically for people with high blood pressure. It usually controls my issues.
I use Vicks vapor rub on the inside of the nose - helps at night a lot to breathe if you cannot get the decongestants. Also, keep an eye out for secondary infection - I had to go on an Azithromycim pak as my cold started to morph into secondary infection. Feel better.
Probably don't take a decongestant if you have irregular heart beat or enlarged prostate. With what you have I'd inhale steam and gargle with warm salt water. They sell small devices that will boil a little water and direct the steam into a sort of funnel that you'd breathe from. Look up "steam inhaler".
Hi, I think personally I'd be going for some nasal salt water therapy. For me this works so well and gets rid of blocked sinuses and mucous in no time. I am tempted to start making and taking honey and chopped onions which seems to get some good press for a natural remedy. I think with all things we all act differently with compounds so see what works the most effective for you , your body and symptoms. Good luck 🤞 Gary
I'm in the sixth day of a persistent cold - tested negative for all the bad stuff (Covid, flu, SARS) but my nose runs constantly. What helps me a lot is to put some boiling water in a bowl, add a drop of a high quality essential oil respiratory blend (I use Original Swiss Aromatics - Respiratory Magic Blend or Sinus Magic Blend), put a kitchen towel over my head as a tent, and breathe in for 3-5 mins, stirring the water occasionally with a spoon. So far, I have no sore throat and no cough. My word of caution here if you do this is to use a pure, high quality essential oil. There are a lot of bad ones out there.
