Water intake

I'm taking my Imbruvica at 7 PM with my last cup of water for the day.I make certain that I drink 12 cups of water during the day....half of it during the morning and the rest during the early afternoon. I still need to get up about 3 times a night. Is this normal? And is it safe to take the pill at night, but drink most of the water in the early part of the day?

Please rephrase your post question as fluid needs. Exercise/ambient temperature and other factors need to be considered. For example, if you experience a reasonably common response to treatment drugs - diarrhoea/vomiting, you'll need to replace that fluid and if you drink lots of tea, coffee, juice etc, then you need to cut back on the water. A rough starting guide is about 1.5 to 2 litres of fluid or around 6 - 10 cups/glasses per day.

Everything you drink counts, as do foods with high amounts of water. Provided you keep your urine a light straw colour, you are sufficiently hydrated. Absolute measures like cups of water without considering other factors, are probably why you are having a disturbed sleep.

With respect to your second question, it's probably best to have most of your fluid intake with/after taking your ibrutinib, but other considerations like better management of the side effects of medication are very important too. Ibrutinib has a long half-life in your body, so it takes a while to metabolise and most of the metabolites exit in your faeces. Fluid intake is still important in helping your body flush out what your body can't recycle from killed CLL cells.

Even with the prostate of normal size it is hard to drink a lot of water before going to sleep and not have to wake up during the night to go to the toilet. If it is enlarged it's that much worse. But if this user by the name of hidden is a female then it doesn't apply 😁

I’ve taken Ibrutinib at 7pm for 7 years with no negative side effects. I usually get up twice per night but am able to get back to sleep. Good luck. Sally

I am on the other warm coast but on the same schedule !

I take 3 capsules at 7pm daily. During chemotherapy, if I could sleep through the rough times I could survive it. So, I decided to take it in the evening in case I became sick I knew I could sleep through the roughest times. Fortunately I have never gotten sick from Ibrutinib. Miraculously my numbers started dropping immediately. Previously I’ve had FR and BR. My energy level is great and I do most anything I want. I pray it continues to work. 🙏 Sally

I have been taking mine at 9:30 pm, for the past 3 yrs with no problems. I drink a minimum of 64 oz of liquid a day with the last 6-8 oz with the pill.

Hello Hidden

I drink 50-60 fluid oz of actual water every day, starting in the morning and throughout the day into evening. I take my V pills at 1:00 PM right after lunch. I consider myself lucky if I only get up twice. Only nice thing is after having gotten up in the night for years, I have trained myself to go back to sleep. :)
