COVID - Continued Infection

I tested positive for Covid on the 26 December and received 5 days of Paxlovid and tested negative a few days latter following completion of the course. On the 5th Jan I tested positive again, a possible rebound. Some 14 days later I am still testing positive, the line on the LFT was getting lighter, but today it was a more solid line and within 30 seconds of applying the sample. So indicates that infection is much stronger.

Appreciate some thoughts.

Should I contact the hospitals Haematological Emergency line for ongoing advice?

Or is it a case of waiting?

Robert, sorry I can't offer any useful advice, but if it were me I'd speak with my consultant or the specialist nurse. What's the downside? They will either put your mind at rest or suggest a course of action.

Thanks, just holding off for the moment. Will test tomorrow and see what result we have.

Hi Robert,

The same thing happened to me - Paxlovid stopped all symptoms after only a couple of days, but a week after finishing the 7 day course, it came back again. To be honest, I didn't feel too bad, and I just waited it out. After another two weeks I had a very faint red line, and a week later it was clear. I did check my blood oxygen level daily during the positive period - and if that had started to fall, I would definitely have contacted the medics.

As you know, Paxlovid stops the virus multiplying inside cells, but does nothing to the circulating virus, so those of us with a reduced immune system do get that rebound (as did Pres. Biden). None of us here can really advise you on what to do for the best, because it depends on how much of your immune system remains - and we all differ in that regard.

I wish you well, and trust you will get better soon.

John
