CLL and positive for Covid

Hi, I’m 62, have CLL and have been on active monitoring for 5 years. I developed cold symptoms and a cough today, and have just tested positive for Covid, for the first time since the pandemic started.

Is there any advice anyone can give me or is it just a matter of taking paracetamol? (I’ve told the people I’ve had contact with over the last few days)Many thanks 🙏

Below is a link to a member in the UK and what advice she received regarding how to get treatment after contracting Covid recently. You want to get Paxlovid. It seems you can call x119 in the UK to speed things up. Better safe than sorry.

Maybe your physician will order Paxlovid. Let them know so they can order something for you to take. I also was given Bebtelovamab infusion. We caught it Thanksgiving week. I hope you have an easy time of it.

I tested positive for COVID on Boxing day. Spoke to the Haematology emergency contact staff at around 9.00am, received a callback from a doctor within the hour. Prescribed Paxlovid. Picked up from the hospital at 1pm.

So far symptoms very mild, raised temp from 1 day, and oxygen sats at 96%. A productive cough and blocked sinuses.

Thank you for your reply, it’s good to know first hand experience, I’ve been prescribed Paxlovid and will arrange for it to be collected today.

I agree with Bayside. Contact your primary care doc and tell them you have CLL and would like to be treated because you are immunocompromised. Paxlovid is the likely treatment and its definitely better to be safe than sorry. Hope you recover quickly!

Try and get Paxlovid. I had COVID in August. My GP initially refused to prescribe Paxlovid but I had a PCR test kit that was sent to clinically vulnerable individuals. Sent it off and a local CMDU sent Paxlovid within 2 days. You could recover without it but my experience is that recovery will be faster with Paxlovid I was testing negative and feeling better in under a week

My husband had Covid in July and within 2 hours of reporting the result had an email saying he would be contacted by the CMDU. He had his Paxlovid by the end of day 3 despite reporting at the weekend. If you haven't been contacted already make contact as others have suggested.

I am like you on active monitoring for 5 years . Despite 6 vaccines I did have Covid in October. Took Paxlovid, apart from vile metal taste it worked and was Covid free after 7 days. No long term side affects. I am grateful that this drug is available.

That’s great news Fiona. I’ll be getting Paxlovid later today 🤞. Keep well.
