Thank you

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has posted and lifted my spirits. You are all correct, and I am feeling determined to not give in to my melancholy. I have decided to start exercising more. I just went down to my basement and dusted off the sewing machine I bought years ago when I wanted to learn to sew and gave up. Someone had mentioned quilting, and that has always interested me as well. I baked a cake yesterday, and I have decided to try and paint my kitchen cabinets. I really think the key is as most of you said -- keep busy and enjoy life one day at a time. It is so nice to be able to talk with people who understand how this diagnosis can not only affect us physically but also emotionally.

Thank you all, again!!!!!

You have just inspired me to clean my garage when I get back from my bike ride. Glad you are picking yourself up and dusting yourself off.

I faced some resistance from some family members on my exercising after my diagnosis with CLL. They wanted me to “rest”. I shared with them that my CLL specialist had encouraged me to exercise as much as I could. I finished my first triathlon 18 months after my diagnosis and really focused on my physical conditioning.

Getting used to the hot, humid weather on the east coast, along with the hilly terrain, has been a challenge. But like everything else, the more you do it, the easier it is.

That's great to hear my friend. Be kind to yourself, you deserve it.

I am glad you feel better. When we work and are busy all the time, its strange trying to fill our day. Its also hard to allow yourself to watch daytime tv.My friend does quilting and belongs to a club. My mother in law has a friend who does cross stitching. You can buy patterns to make pictures and she makes birthday and Christmas cards. A friend made a sampler with my daughters birth details on. If you like sewing you can spend hours. If you want to make new friends join clubs. Good luck. Let us know how you get on, Anne uk

Yes I’m with you on doing the things you enjoy it trying new things to enjoy too. I have found walking every day has helped my mental health. Whatever works. It’s so easy to feel miserable and at times it requires a major effort to feel cheery. It sounds like you’ve already worked out how you can appreciate each day

Absolutely right, doing things with a visible end result work wonders. So glad you've found some interests, maybe more will come to mind to do. I like dressmaking and photography. Making books of my photos has a great sense of achievement.

I’ve never thought of making books of my photos. Great idea. Thanks. Sally

I use Blurb, a self publishing company with tools for book layout. Very intuitive, you do it all on your computer with no-one rushing you to finish a book. They are based in the USA but I use them here in the UK. I always look for an offer to reduce the price. Happy book making.

After getting my dx of thyroid cancer and CLL I spun into a very negative space for about 3 years. One day my wife said that she could hardly take it any more. I decided there and then that my love is bigger than cancer

I had adopted a healthy lifestyle and have plenty of hobbies to do

I was just still caught in depression and anxiety.

But enough was enough

I saw in these posts so many who were in an emotional place I was and many who were in much better place living a very good life despite terrible difficulties .

I went with the later

I started Calquence and with that firm daily choice to live a loving and kind life I actually feel great. And I do have physical problems but everyone and everything in this world gets to a place of physical demise. I’m no different.

I’m so glad you are experiencing life again. I wish you and all in this beautiful community well. By well I mean in whatever form is possible.
