I was searching for something else entirely when I found a recall for Magnesium Citrate I had bought last week and never used THANK GOODNESS !
The thing is, I looked in 3 stores (pharmaceutical areas) before I found this one, last bottle at a local Kroger. Fortunately, I did not open the bottle, as I was not in dire need of using it--had thought it would be good to have, should I need it.
This is over-the-counter (OTC) not prescribed, but called for use in prep for Colonoscopy as well as useful for constipation.
"Risk Statement: Immunocompromised patients, who consume this product, may be at increased risk for invasive infections caused by Gluconacetobacter liquefaciens that could lead to serious, life-threatening adverse health consequences. To date, Vi-Jon, LLC is aware of 3 (three) reports of serious adverse reactions potentially related to this recall. Vi-Jon, LLC is in the process of investigating these reports."
The recall is for the product as distributed in U.S., Canada, and Panama.
This is my second time this year to have a product that had the potential for harm--the first was a brand of peanut butter. Both of the items had a distribution # that was recalled.
We can't be too careful---in doing our own checking for both OTC and Prescription meds. Here is the address for the titled FDA pages:
I do take Magnesium Citrate (not 🔼 this brand). Why? For the last two years I have suffered dry, flakey skin on my face. Since taking Magnesium Citrate, my skin has cleared up completely.....I have suffered no side effects.
I suspect you take Magnesium Citrate as a pill? What I have referred to is a liquid used especially as a laxative in the process of preparing for a colonoscopy.
I subscribe to the daily FDA recall alerts. It is amazing how many I get that are delayed or staggered in reporting. I started putting things into the freezer for a month before using, watching for alerts. I appreciate the heads up since I have a colonoscopy looming in September!
