High Eosinophil count in recent blood tests in CLL Patient

Have been on watch and wait for almost 2 years, lymphocytes have crept up over time to 65, but in my last 2 blood tests my Eosinophils were above the upper bound of the range of 0 to 0.5. At the end of January I was 0, but a the beginning of May, I went to 0.65, now at the beginning of June I am at 0.7. Will the doctors screen me for allergies, then parasites to eliminate those reasons first? Thoughts?

It may be whatever was causing your recent bout with a fungus.

Here is a 2016 article differentiating the role of Eosinophils from other white blood cell infection fighters.

A quote from the article:

Studies have demonstrated suppression of peripheral eosinophil counts in patients during acute bacterial and viral infections [1, 2]. Therefore, eosinophilia in the context of an acute illness points toward a non-infectious (e.g. autoimmune), parasitic (e.g. acute schistosomiasis), or fungal (e.g. coccidiomycosis) etiology as the cause of the illness [1].

I hope this helps— don't take the extreme situations as what is happening to you, but maybe a sorting from other possibilities can help you to relate to you Dr.

I have had my Eosinophils reading high several times and have not had anything happen to change them but they have gone back to the normal range. There are a lot of things in the air, a lot of what we can come in contact with that can raise them temporarily---that means they are fighting the good fight and if we don't have any ailment, we can rest assured, they are taking care of whatever invader.

I would be cautious with the fungal situation you have just had. It would be beneficial to find what it was caused by and if any further like situation occurs, see an Infectious Disease Dr.

We can't be too cautious about anything that infects us, because we are quite susceptible to any and everything in the way of infections.

Best wishes and let us know how you go.

Here is a more "down to earth", less medical jargon-speak, Cleveland Clinic take on Eosinophils which is more likely to be understandable and not so scary with that which we may never come in contact.

Don't overlook any usually experienced allergies as a cause for your high eosinophil counts. In the 16 years for which I have blood test results, my eosinophil counts have nearly always been on the low side. The exception was one year which was a particularly bad season for hay fever, when my counts were at or above the upper 0. 5 count reference level.

Allergies can be the culprit too. I had my eosinophils go sky high after I was prescribed Trazadone for sleeplessness. It helped, but I started getting an irritated cough. My doctor had no idea why my eosinophils were so high. Eventually, I decided to stop the Trazadone because of other side effects and the eosinophilia cleared up too. Anything new you are eating or taking?

Could be a number of things. Will try my best to isolate factors. I generally do not experience allergies. May have picked up a parasite in Africa. Don’t know at this stage.
