The newly elected president of Costa Rica was inaugurated last Sunday, May 8. One of the first things he did in his new role yesterday is to eliminate the law requiring the wearing of masks and compulsory vaccinations for all government employees. The later is being questioned as it contradicts and existing law covering all typed of vaccinations. It was not picked up during the campaigned that he did not wear a mask, and he said nothing about his antivax leanings. This is obviously of great concern to those of us who are immune compromised.

Costa Rica Discontinues covid protection
Wow, you had a law requiring government employees to be vaccinated? We never did. And now masks aren't compulsory either this side. So we swim the same seas 😃 only yours are cleaner.
The law for vaccinations will have to be repealed as there is an existing law I don't think they can get around - it was drawn for kids getting measles, chicken pox, etc it also includes covid. The mask exemption is final. A bank employee is in the paper this morning for refusing to allow a client into his office without a mask. That should be interesting!
Siempre es interesante de leer noticias de Costa Rica ! I visited Costa Rica first in 1964 and the last time in the early years of our current century. Pues...."pura vida" !
Always nice to hear from someone who knows the country. I can assure you, the shit has truly hit the fan over the new presidents remarks. He's backed off on the compulsory injections - they are back on for civil servants. The masks are up in the air!Cheers - Dan
Costa Rica was "nirwana" for U.S. Americans and Canadians until the mid-1980's. But then security became an issue and for some the "end" of the "party".... My favorite place was Punta Arenas... Once I took a guided night walk in the mountain jungle up in Monteverde: The fog came down.... really spooky....
The biggest tourist base is still the US & Canada, and also the largest source of people moving here. My wife and I have both become citizens - we've been here 31 years. You night time jungle tour does indeed sound spooky - even without the fog. It sounds like you are an adventurer. I can't say I've done any hiking in the jungle.
If you decided to head back to see what it is like now, let me know I live only 10 minutes from the San Jose Airport.
Cheers - Dan
