Thanks for the reminder MMH.

Yesterday I did check for St George's mushrooms at a couple of local sites, but as in the past two years there were none to be seen on the appointed day. Chaucer's vision: Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote,The droghte of March hath perced to the roote didn't apply this April or the previous two. The ground is too dry for the mycelium to send up the fruiting bodies I like to eat. There's still a chance if we get a good soaking in the next two weeks, but the forecast is not promising.

See, the English prefer to talk about the weather rather than their patron saint.

I believe that white and green asparagus are one and the same.... If starved of sunlight, it turns/stays white...... A bit like me๐ŸŒž

Agreed it has to be green English asparagus, and the only one I will eat. Donโ€™t like the white, especially the way itโ€™s served in Germany with boiled potatoes. Food has to look good as well as taste good. ๐Ÿ˜‹

A little olive oil in a frying pan (keeps the asparagus bright green), roll the asparagus in the hot olive oil, add a couple of table spoons of water, cover the frying pan with a lid/dinner plate, leave it to steam for two or three minutes.....or cook on a griddle/steak pan... (boiling ruins it) Perfect!

I like to griddle or make a risotto. Last week was with prosciutto and cream pasta. It is one of my favourite foods along with English cherries ๐Ÿ’

Just started growing wild garlic, only because I was given some-Iโ€™ve never tasted it.

Just go careful with it. I put a tiny amount in with my spinach soup and gave the rest to my neighbours. Garlic is supposed to be very good for you. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love loads of garlic...... I've even been to the garlic festival on the Isle of Wight, a few times... I should get a life๐Ÿคช.
