COVID-19 continues to surge in the UK. This does not bode well for all those immunocompromised in the UK and USA where vaccinations have slowed down.
The Delta variant in the UK continues to surge. - CLL Support
The Delta variant in the UK continues to surge.
Under 40s?
Less severe?
Check for admissions - the only real transferable marker across surges and twixt nations.
Deaths ditto - ish!
BUT Hey!
Definitely stay vigilant. Avoid indoor sharing of space.

It concerns me that the Govt are considering allowing non vaccinated children to go on holiday to higher risk Amber countries as long as both of their parents have had the double vaccine. It’s like the younger ones are an ‘innocent appendage’ even though it’s known that they are more likely to be vectors of the virus and asymptomatic. They’ll be a need for tests but not quarantine on return.Frankly I’m not surprised the EU members are considering imposing their own quarantine on Brits given the increasing rates of the Delta variant.

Surging in israel too where we are up from 4 cases a day and no restrictions ten days ago to 150-200 daily now. I hope that they take swift action, reintroduce masking indoors and enforce the travel and quarantines. Alarming that a third of cases are in vaccinated individuals. So far it’s been mild cases and hospitalisations haven’t gone up but that takes time to catch up.
The nightmare scenario is the impact of the disease on the vaccinated general public is minimal but significant on vaccinated CLLers,
"...a third of cases are in vaccinated individuals" Yikes!!
It's half of cases according to wsj.com/articles/vaccinated... However, "Israel has only recorded five severe cases in the past 10 days, Prof. Balicer said, but whether more will emerge is too early to tell".
The US hasn’t seen the same surge YET. But it is distressing to note that the percentage of the population vaccinated in the UK is slightly above that of the US and in Israel it is significantly above. Obviously, it’s only a matter of time before this wave hits the US. This winter is going to be difficult I fear.
It’s been a rude awakening here as it really felt like the nightmare is behind us. All of the first cases were traced back to mismanagement of the border entries. I really hope that the new government take swift and decisive action to contain it quickly. I don’t think it will disappear completely but with some restrictions it can be controlled. Reintroducing some restrictions will make me feel safer, having high risk for complications due to CLL and no antibodies
I read on a doctor's blog that the Delta variants are the fastest spreaders. They are transmissible in only 4-5 seconds of exposure of someone just passing by. This included a woman sitting outside where an infected person passed her on way into a building. They tested positive for the identical variant.
