prophylactic Drugs and ibrutinib
I am on a different prophylactic antibiotic, antiviral and gut settler. I was on allopurinol to prepare me for Venetoclax, it lowers Uric acid levels because the kidneys takes a bit of a battering.
I didn’t feel great off allopurinol- I know this because I started taking it ahead of everything. I also struggled with a few different antivirals - being acutely allergic to some.
After a few of months of up & down - I now tolerate them all fairly well.
fluconazole is a powerful cyp3a4 drug which is counter indicated with ibrutinib. you should have your doctor look into it and be prepared to adjust the dose. I had a similiar issue with a drug i was taking for my trigeminal neuralgia(carbamazapine) which was also a powerful cyp3a4 drug. I had to change to another drug for my trigeminal neuaralgia so i could take the ibrutinib. all this is listed in the drugs package insert.
When I was taking the infection prevention drugs (trimethoprim, valacyclovir, and fluconazole) along with ibrutinib, I was getting some side effects that appeared to be from the drug-liver enzyme interaction that Smith123456 mentioned. I got lips that were dry & cracked, so then the amount of fluconazole was decreased. Also, all these drugs can sensitize skin to the sun. I got a very severe rash when my arms were exposed even briefly. It made my skin look & feel like leather, and took about a year to clear up. These problems, along with GI issues from the ibrutinib, had me stopping the ibrutinib.
I am not taking anything other than ibrutinib (just diagnosed, in my early 60s),
