Ricther Transformation - Derek May has left us.

Hello everyone. It is always my turn to deliver the bad news. Tonight Derek May left us. Two weeks ago Derek made the difficult decision to continue treatment or discontinue it. Derek underwent a cell transplant and had graft-versus-host complications. He was in treatment but his body could not bear so much toxicity. They did a new biopsy and the doctors said that his Ricther had become even more aggressive and that he could not take any more treatments due to his condition. He made the decision to stop the treatments and rest. I mean that every patient is different. Not everyone, no matter how strong, can withstand the treatments, so it is not the same for everyone. I want to thank Derek May for providing his support and expertise to this group. I repeat that not everyone is the same. Derek May was young and strong, but the treatments his body wouldn't accept. We will continue to fight each other to try to understand the Ricther and help others. Thanks for everything Derek May.

I share a picture of him, because Derek posted his picture to raise money for his funeral.

RIP Derek. Always so sad to hear of the loss of someone so young and vibrant and I’m sure your group will miss him deeply Priss. Condolences to all who knew and loved him.

Did we have Derek as a member on this site? I’m wondering what his avatar name was.

If Derek was a member of this group, that's why I put it. I do not remember his name. I would have to check my messages if he wrote to me privately.

Thanks for letting us know Priss, I’m sure the members here would like the opportunity to look back at his profile because sometimes we realise we’ve spoken to people without realising their real name. So sad.

He contacted me a year and a half ago for this group. They had just finished doing a transplant together with another woman who was also in this group and who had Ricther. She also died of complications from the transplant. From November to March, four people have died within Ricther's group. Two were not trafficked given their status. The other two were almost the same age, they were not even 50 years old. Very young

I am so sorry, Toni. It's difficult reading your post, not only because of Derek, but knowing how hard this must be on you.

You honor life in what you do and you honored Derek's life. I am so glad you were there for him.

Wishing you strength and good health 💕

This increases my desire to hear of some advances in Richter's research. It is still one of the most haunting probabilities of living with CLL and to which we need more effective treatments.

His smile gives gives him away. He looks like a very kind and deserving soul.

I wish peace and unity for you Priss, and to Derek, his friends, and family.

He was one of us and participated in this group. It was very hard for him to make the decision to go to hospice and say goodbye. He was only 47 years old and had two young children.
