Flu Jabs UK

I see from another post that some people have flu jabs twice a year. I am due to have mine tomorrow morning and was unaware that some people do have them twice a year . Is this just to serve as a booster or are there two different types? Also I don’t think that the NHS offers anything but once a year. Any advice appreciated

Morning,

I have also seen several of those comments here, but don’t believe any from the U.K. I asked my practice nurse if anyone was given it twice and she said no. I am not sure if Boots would give us a second one early next year, and a lot would depend on stocks.

I'm having mine tomorrow morning too. :)

I'll ask the pharmacist doing mine what the policy is but as mrsjsmith says, in the UK I think it's just once a year for everyone. I'm not even sure there would be enough for 2 as this year they have expanded the criteria for eligibility nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinati...

Hi I am in the U.K. and had two flu jabs last year. The first from my GP and the second I paid for from a local chemist. My GP is aware of this as is my haematologist. There were insufficient stocks of over 65’s so my second was for the under 65’s. I had a good winter but may have done anyway. I will proceed with two this year if available as a precaution.

I have had replies to my post yesterday which state that some people are getting more than two. The reasoning behind multiple flu jabs’ I am informed, is that they do not work so well in our depleted immunity systems, so a second is required as a booster.

My flu jab has just been cancelled by Boots because of a failure of supply. Not sure when they will have more. Sad state of affairs :(

Jackie I wonder where the 30 million doses have gone. Good luck finding it.

So sorry to hear that, Jackie. Hubby and I had our flu jabs at Boots a week ago so we count ourselves as lucky. We had the over 65s one though.

Yes i learnt this after reading that the jab was more efficacious given in the morning.

having booked at Gp 17.25 only appt. left!

thought I would check Boots,

said not making any more appts. as National shortage!! Quite shocked..

now glad i have one even if late in the day!

Sorry state of affairs

good luck to those still searching

Pat

Thanks for the advice. I am going to have a few different ones tomorrow. Flu (over 65), diptheria and tetanus. It's the second installment after having pneumonia and HiB jabs a couple of weeks ago. It's a good job I don't worry too much about injections !

I am getting regular flu shot this week. In USA. My GP doesn't want me to get high dose even tho I am 65. He said he is concerned about any reactions. Guess he has had patients that had difficulty plus during covid I would have to get tested if I got sick. Only one given a year. No one I know personally gets a second one.

As long as you get the shot- you will at least be protected. 🙏💕
