Hi All

Since we all wish to avoid toxic and expensive treatments, one way is to prolong w&w as much as possible. Neil or other experts may be able to update on latest credible information ( if any) on effective use of curcumin ...

Curcumin can be toxic... it has a dark side...

onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi...

A study just closed but nothing published yet ...

A Phase II Study of Curcumin and Vitamin D in Previously Untreated Patients With Early Stage Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) or Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma (SLL)

There was an interesting review article from Serbia about a year ago... on lower toxicity treatments... but as it points out...

The low cost therapeutics discussed in this review could not be a substitute for the more effective targeted therapies, but their use in every day practice might postpone the need for early implementation of new and costly medications.

The article u mention is echoing sentiments that i wrote. I cannot afford ibutrinib etc as they r too expensive.

What would be a better choice for me? I am excited using egcg , curcumin as mentioned in the article.

Here is another article on EGCG and curcumin, its a bit old and before we knew about clonal evolution etc.

Understand that EGCG is a form of chemo... others are resveratrol and antibiotics like fluoroquinolones.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

There are many options for main stream treatment, chlorambucil is probably the cheapest, its been used for years...

Thanks Chris. Is Chlorambucil a tablet, taken orally? I will ask my onco in next visit. Chemo is something which I must avoid in India. One gets into endless loop of treatment.

Both links u sent are same article .

I suggest you to consider also posting information on this site which might be helpful for members like me who wish paliative care to avoid chemo and very expensive oral tablets.

I wud takeup this EGCG option with my onco and post his reaction.

Chris, Do you see ECGC as a cytotoxic traditional chemo or more like a targeted chemo like imbruvica?

Does ECGC do cell DNA damage like Traditional chemo?

Chemo refers to all chemical treatments- correct?

Thanks,

Hoffy

EGCG is a Topoisomerase 1/2 inhibitor it effects DNA unravelling... like Etoposide, doxorubicin and Cipro... heavy duty chemos...

Ibrutinib isn't. chemo, it works my blocking signals inside the B cells...

Chris ,

Ok. Interesting.

What about Curcumin?

Similar or more targeted?

Blocking NF-kB and other pathways ?

Both break Stromal protection of the cancer cells ?

I don’t understand a lot of this that well though

Thanks ,

Hoffy

Curcumin primarily is an anti-inflammatory... it works on COX 2 a bit like some NSAIDs...

All this stuff is based on lab or mouse studies... a few human cases have been done, but never in a broad clinical trial.. no money in it...

Chris,

Does ECGC do the above and block NF-kB like a targeted drug per your article ? Or is the unraveling cause the blocking of NF-kB ?

Very complicated,

From the article you posted :

Another promising approach came from use of oral green tea extracts, particularly its major constituent, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), in CLL patients. The rationale for clinical studies came from in vitro observations of anti-prolifera- tive and proapoptotic effects and suppression of activation of NFκB mediated by EGCG in tumor cell cultures [35]. This compound strongly inhib- ited growth factor mediated patways, mitogen activated protein kinase dependent pathways and ubiquitin/protesome degradation pathways in tu- mor cells [36].

Interesting, though my inner sceptic has no means to verify the independence of the 3 Spanish scientists, eg ..from big parmaceutical sponsorship - nothing against Spain you understand.
