Coconut Oil for Coronavirus - Anti Viral Strategy?

Hi I'm w&w diagnosed 18 months ago, I'm using coconut oil due to its strong anti virus abilities.

Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides that have strong antiviral, antifungal, and antibiotic properties, all of which can promote healing and help prevent secondary infections in wounds caused by viral infections.

It looks like it is safe to use and may slow down or limit how a virus spreads through the human body. It's also now being tested as an antiviral agent against Coronavirus.

I also heard that Cannabis has strong antiviral properties and mixes very well with coconut oil, maybe a double preventative measure should you have access to this drug or be lucky enough to live in a legalized area where its available.

Does anyone have any other CLL anti viral advice or strategy for coronavirus protection?

With respect to coconut oil "There’s no evidence that coconut oil reduces your risk of the common cold or other internal infections."

From the Conclusions section of the first reputable source on a search for antiviral properties of Cannabinoids "When viral-induced host responses lead to immunopathology, as is seen in a rodent model of multiple sclerosis, TMEV-IDD, or in a persistent infection of the central nervous system caused by a non-lytic virus, BDV, cannabinoid treatment was beneficial.

In all other virus infections, both in vitro and in vivo, cannabinoid treatment led to disease progression, increased pathology, and sometimes to host death. Therefore, in many clinical settings, including latent infections caused by HIV-1 or HSV-1, and persistent infection of the liver caused by HCV, cannabinoids lead to worsened disease outcome." Conclusion

Several in vitro, animal, and human studies support the potential of coconut oil, lauric acid and its derivatives as effective and safe agents against a virus like nCoV-2019. Mechanistic studies on other viruses show that at least three mechanisms may be operating.

Given the considerable scientific evidence for the antiviral activity of coconut oil, lauric acid and its derivatives and their general safety, and the absence of a cure for nCoV-2019, we urge that clinical studies be conducted among patients who have been infected with nCoV-2019 (see below). This treatment is affordable and virtually risk-free, and the potential benefits are enormous.

On the other hand, given the safety and broad availability of virgin coconut oil (VCO), we recommend that VCO be considered as a general prophylactic against viral and microbial infection.

Thank you for providing those references. I saw that paper from the Integrated Chemists of the Philippines, but immediately discounted it because "Global Coconut Oil Market 2019 – the Philippines Continues to Dominate Production and Trade

:

The countries with the highest volumes of coconut oil production in 2018 were the Philippines (1.2M tonnes), Indonesia (885K tonnes) and India (390K tonnes), with a combined 76% share of global production."

I get suspicious when there is no declaration regarding potential conflict of interests or how a study was funded. Per the Mechanisms of Action section of that paper, where the effect of lauric acid and sodium lauryl sulphate on viral envelopes are discussed, you get the same effect from soap! You need to be aware of industry funded papers. :)

The other paper is about viral hepatitis, which is not caused by a coronavirus, but hepatitis A, B or C, but at least we have a Conflicts of Interest and an Acknowledgement section "The authors acknowledge the support of the staff of Bio-Tech R & D, Medicanja Jamaica Ltd., and Flavocure Biotech LLC."

Hi Neil - fair enough and good points.

But in the absence of anything else then I think using safe anti-virals, could be better than nothing as a CLL patient for the protection against Coronavirus.

It might help.

Therefore my strategy is to use Coconut Oil. Is it a scientifically proven anti viral, the answer is yes. Is it safe, the answer is yes, is it readily available, then yes.

Could it help fight Coronavirus, then the answer is maybe. As is stands in the absence of anything else ill happily use a 'maybe' as part of my strategy. I've also discovered that Elderberry extract might help.

I'm sure medical professionals won't like the use of natural plant based medicines for lots of reasons, one being dosage levels. But another is the fact they can't easily turn them into pills and charge ridiculous prices.

What's your anti-viral strategy?
