Vitamin C 2000 mg a day ?

Since my husband started with Imbruvica this week, he suspended all supplements. My question is will it be ok that he starts taking Vitamin C 1000 mg twice a day as he was doing before he started Imbruvica?

Did you ask his CLL dr or CLL pharmacist ?

They usually go over all the supplements and drugs you are on to see their interactions and which ones they approve and do not approve

The best evidence for vitamin C providing a significant reduction in cold length found it was limited to elite athletes who were training at the time. Despite many trials, it hasn't shown proven effectiveness for the general population.

Hello AussieNeil

I did not have time to search cllcanada archives, but did not Chris say that vit C increases lymphocyte count and should not be taken?

That's right. Dr Susan Leclair advised that Vitamin C stimulated lymphocyte production and Hairbear quoted her message.

Thanks for recalling this concern.

There's a timely article from The Conversation, which mentions panic buying of vitamin C in Singapore.

...a review found that vitamin C has no effect on reducing the frequency of colds, it did find that for the average person, there was a small decrease in the duration of common cold symptoms. But for people that participate in brief periods of severe physical exercise (such as marathon runners and skiers), vitamin C halved the duration and severity of their common cold risk.

These slight effects of vitamin C on the coronavirus that causes the common cold have spurred a new clinical trial looking to cure COVID-19 infections using very high intravenous doses of vitamin C. These trials have just started and no results are yet posted. Intravenous application of vitamin C will result in much higher and faster levels of the vitamin in the blood than any amount found in vitamin C supplements taken orally. Though this approach could increase vitamin C’s mild effect, this is yet hypothetical and intravenous injection comes with its own risks, such as infection, blood vessel damage, air embolism or blood clots."

Hi Chillo,

Like your husband I was taking Vitamin C daily before starting ibrutinib.

I was asked to list all medication and vitamins I was taking from the hospital pharmacist and she suggested to stop the Vitamin C and other supplements.

It’s ok to take vitamins in your daily food and vegetable intake instead.

Good health to you and husband.

Take care.

Kind regards from Josephine from Australia.

I took imbuvica for two years. Was very successful. Never was told, I went in nyc to msk, to stop my c or d. Told to stop turmeric. Kept taking my other supplements. Good luck.

My doctor is aware that I take vitamin c supplements and never told me to stop taking them. I’ve been on imbruvica for 8 months now
