Axillary lymph node
Hi Keyvanlvl,
-
Although I am a male and never had mammography, I believe several members have reported this phenomena, in fact many women have their CLL diagnosed as a result of this type of finding during normal mammography.

Axillary LN enlargement is common in CLL and so I would think that it's 'normal' for it to be picked up on mammography.
A number of members have reported having their own CLL found as a result of mammography. Good to keep up with the screening tests

I had that. Freaked me out. Went away not long after treatment with Venetoclax started.
This happened to me when i had a mamo it was fine according to them nothing was done about it. Although i did have 2 fibroadenomas.
Hii tnx for your reply, so no need to worry about it??
No bc its probably cll lymph node. I've had it there for a long time. Bring it up to your doctor if its worrying to you.
I had breast cancer treated in 2016. In 2017 my lymph nodes on the opposite side were enlarged and a subsequent biopsy showed SLL. I asked my onco about future lymph nodes and she said the only way to really determine whether it’s SLL or recurrent bc is by biopsy. My advice is to make sure they are checked for enlargement at each mammogram. Mine were smaller in 2018. Having my mammo again next month so we’ll have to see how it goes. Just make sure you keep up on the mammon’s and the onco visits.
Hi Keyvanlvl,
I had enlarged axillary nodes on mammogram, had a follow up ultra sound as I have dense tissue, the technician was more concerned than me, I can feel them most of the time so it was no surprise! My doctor was not concerned about them, so check with your specialist if your worried 💕

I had a breast ultra sound at lthe end of last year and enlarged axilliary lymoh nodes were picked up. Following a surgical biopsy they were removed and found to be malignant. A Tac scan picked up more enlarged lymph nodes After a raft of further tests, which included a bone marrow biopsy, I was diagnosed with Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma. Because I am tp53 17p deletion it was decided that target therapy was my only option. I started taking Ibrutinib at the beginning of June and have been fortunate not to have experienced any major side effects. I live in Spain and my treatment has been excellent. I have other health issues, Type 2 Diabetes, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Thrombophilia amongst them. All my consultants have worked together to ensure my quality of life has suffered very little. Each day I remember my Secondary School motto, 'Onwards and Upwards. It's served me well!
Hi, yes I was diagnosed with Cll in this way.
Hii...did u do anything about it? Or it's a normal sign in cll
The radiologist didn’t tell me but asked my GP to contact me to investigate. The rest is history now. Bloods, referral, more tests and the diagnosis. All I was experiencing was day/night sweats. I couldn’t feel the nodes and was just getting to the point of asking my GP why I was sweating so much which would then have resulted in the same pathway. It speeded my diagnosis up a month or 2.
I think the new 3D mammograms are now more likely to pick up enlarged lymph nodes.
Hi there! Yes....that’s how my CLL was discovered - it was on a routine mammogram. Then came the ULT to map them, then the blood tests, CT and damn-the diagnosis.
I’m not sure what normal is but I had/have that too. Two years after my CLL dx I was dx with DCIS stage 0. The techs freaked out about it but my oncologists agreed it was from the CLL.
Hi, axillary lymph node enlargement found during routine mammography was how my SLL was initially discovered. I was 50 years old at the time in tip top health. Several years later I found a lump in my breast and it was confirmed via ultrasound and biopsied. It turned out to be the SLL not breast cancer. Very bulky axillary lymph nodes were causing radial nerve pain down my arm and low-dose radiation shrunk the nodes and the impingement ceased.
Yes...that’s how the red flag got raised with me in the first place Try to stay with same radiologist and GP if possible. Years later after treatment when my CLL came back on me I had switched physicians. OMG. they got me all worked up for NOTHING. They were even discussing biopsy I insisted on a breast MRI .... my nodes were growing every where else so why not the breast? Outcome ...CLL. I figured as much but still relieved I would not be tackling another cancer. Take care

Hi. Yes I have SLL and swollen lymph nodes in my axilla ...apparently the.one that they biopsied is the size of a golf ball....so dont worry about it....the docs will follow up.....bless you
Hii tnxx...does it need to take a biopsy from? I think the dr said u will have lymph node enlargement in different areas and no need to take biopsy, maybe I'm wrong
Hi Keyvanlvl,

Usually if you have a clear diagnosis of CLL or SLL and your node enlargement, spleen and symptoms are within expected norms, then biopses, CT Scans and PET Scans are rarely needed by experienced CLL experts.
-
But if your FLOW test is odd, one node grows quickly or you have odd symptoms or blood test results, then experienced doctors will order some or all those tests to rule out more serious blood cancers that need different treatments and timing.
-
As CLL patients we all desire to be boring, and never exciting to our CLL experts.

Hi!
What lankisterguy wrote above prompted me to add this...
I have had a mammogram.
Twice in fact.
Sat in the waiting room holding my composure under the quizzical scrutiny of the ladies sat there with me. Yikes! Me being a bloke btw.
I have had 2 breast lumps. One on left the other on the right - 2 years apart. We know with CLL we must take of secondary cancers.
With all these lymph nodes around, and at the time I had 4 quadrant lymph node masses - loads, I could not be too careful.
My diagnosis twice was Gynaecomastia.

This is an important message to all men - we too do get breast cancer.
For every 100 women with a breast cancer diagnosis 1 man will be diagnosed.
Gynaecomastia is relatively common and harmless. But needs checking.
Mysteriously mine have now disappeared since FCR!
Be of courage!

It is normal for me and shows up on every mammogram. Each time I have been told that results are similar to my last mammogram and it is nothing to worry about.
