Has anyone got any experience with moving to France. My husband was diagnosed with CLL about 18ths ago. He is on the Flair trial taking Ibrutinib. It has always been our dream to retire to France. But very unsure what to do. Any advice greatly appreciated x

I think this is something that you should discuss with your Trial Co-ordinator Earthangel.

The issue is obviously access to appropriate medical attention if needed especially if you go too rural and inaccessible plus collection of meds. I’m not sure how he’s doing and how often he has blood tests and consults.

There’s a lot to consider but I wouldn’t give up on your dream. However, it’s necessary to keep in mind the possible issues of reciprocal health provision post Brexit, health insurance and whether the trial specifies ‘ordinary residence’ in the U.K. for continuance.

Best wishes,

Newdawn

I moved to France 3 months after my diagnosis. I now have an excellent physician in France and go to UK once a year to see my original consultant. They exchange their reports and so far have been in agreement. I have found the French health service to be excellent and most doctors speak at least someEnglish. Chronic conditions are treated for free.

We just have to hope Brexit does not wreck the current reciprocal agreements!

Good luck.

Whereabouts in France are you?

We are down in the South West, in Lot et Garonne- our nearest big hospital is only 15 km away in Agen . Blood tests can be done locally at the local lab with results by e mail in 24 hours.

We have a holiday home in The Dordogne, so was looking around that area... are you a permanent resident in France? Sorry for all the questions!

Yes we have been here for 5 years and are now applying for citizenship.

We are also thinking of moving to France - I'm just wondering what stage are you at? Have you got health insurance sorted?

Hi, my husband remains on the Flair trial with The Christie and flys back to uk every 3 months for appointments. He is now in the French healthcare system and is currently looking for top up insurance. Whereabouts are you looking to move?
